Even today this is very commonplace. Mosley took 16 months off before he fought Mayweather.....remember....Huh??

And he then had 2 fights within the next 5 months, both at exactly 10 lbs over his weight for his reported weighin for Calzaghe less than 6 months later. Heds had only TWO losses, both razor thin and questionable, against the SAME guy, who "may" have just "had his number"...

So he was a good opponent, and was chosen by the WBO who's title he'd held for years, and lost just 2 years before. I don't see a "shot" fighter in these facts. Just wasn't as good as he had been. Who is after 47 fights these days?? Only Klitschko I think.

I'm going to bed, goodnight all.
fact: Eubank publicly retired after the Collins fight. he came back and fought some bums after a year of layoff, and was about to fight another bum at 175lbs when he was called up for a fight with Calzaghe on two weeks notice.

Eubank, meanwhile, had been training to fight Mark Prince at light heavyweight, but with just two weeks to get down to 168lbs the 31-year-old chose to accept the title bout - and vowed to take the young upstart "into the trenches".
And Mayweather obviously fought a worse version of Mosley. The 16 month layoff most definitely hurt his stamina.

Whats funny is that the WBO title wasnt even really considered a legitimate world title at that point and time. They were practicly handing out the title.
On December 18, 1999, Alejandro Montiel was originally scheduled to fight Jose Lopez for the vacant flyweight crown, but withdrew a few hours before the fight. Isidro Garcia happened to be in attendance as a spectator and was asked to step in while sitting at ringside eating a doughnut. Garcia fought and won the title using borrowed trunks, protective cup and mouthpiece.
This was even after Calzaghe won the title.

                • I've watched the fight several times. I initially scored it 115-112 for Calzaghe, the last time I watched it I scored it 114-113 for Hopkins, but I don't know how anyone can claim that such a close fight was a robbery. I have no sympathy for Hopkins, he showed against Pavlik that he can fight more actively, yet he continues to go into fights with the intention of throwing one or two punches a round, then complaining when he loses.
The way he fought against Calzaghe was disgraceful, it was pathetic to see someone with such a reputation repeatedly fouling and feigning injury. Some people will say that they are tactics of a "cagey veteran", but in my opinion they are the tactics of a cheating c**t. Tim Bradley is a dirty fighter and he gets slated for it all the time, yet with Hopkins we're meant to give him the benefit of the doubt because he's old.
