If Marg shows up in the kinda shape he was in for the pac fight, he'll break cotto down once again. I don't think Cotto is a great hitter at 154 anyways, he's lost some speed..and velocity.

To have success in a rematch you have to be able to make adjustments and those with better boxing skills are the ones that can actually adjust better .
Out of the 2 fighters, Cotto is more a complete fighter, with better boxing skills. Because of his amatuer background he will have more resources to go back to. With Manny in his corner we have seen a Cotto that is relying more on his jabs, while taking lest risk, moving in and out and staying away from the ropes. Cotto already demonstrated that he can outbox Margarito by giving him a clinic in the 1st 6 rounds of their fight, but by taking the punishment on the ropes while exchanging blows with a pressure fighter was obviously the wrong gameplan.
We all know that Margarito is fighter that have only one style and does not have the boxing skills to adjust. He is a tough pressure fighter with a great chin that will just come forward and attack and try to beat you with his work rate but has no defense. His success has been based on his continuos pressure although his hand speed and jab are nothing special. Which makes him vulnerable to fighters that can come in and out, keep him of balance with a good jab, followed by a few combinations and get out of his way when he starts the pressure and especially away from the ropes.
Cotto showed he can do that already but he needs to do it for the entire fight and that will be the question. Can Cotto do it for the entire fight instead of only 6 rounds??? I liked what I saw in the Mayorga fight, because his stamina seemed much better and his discipline to stick to the gameplan with a fighter similar to Margarito. Cotto was a fighter that never listen to his corner and did what ever he wanted on the ring, this time around he is trusting and putting his career in hands of Manny and that itself is a major improvement that will make a huge difference in a rematch.
The other thing to think about is the plaster issue. True that there is no proof that Margo used plaster on the Cotto fight, but there is no proof he did not use it either.
After all, even Margarito can't say or confirm he did not use it because, as his own words, He never knew what Capetillo was putting in his hands. If he didn't know what Capetillo was putting in his hands how can he be sure that for the Cotto fight there was no plaster???
If there was plaster in the 1st fight, it would obviously had an effect on Margos performance and Cotto's breakdown. An effect that this time around will not be there!!!!!
I totally agree with you, nice work!!!

I've never defended Margarito, but lets be honest. Plaster or no plaster, Cotto got pummeled in that fight. You can't get hit that many times and not expect to lose the fight. Also, plaster in Margarito's gloves wouldn't have helped him walk through Cotto's punches. I dont think there was one punch that really hurt Margarito in that whole fight.
I think the rematch can go either way, but I think both have declined an immense amount since the first fight.
Also, can anyone explain to me why Cotto was being called a "future hall of famer" by the media before the mayorga fight?

Fact is no one has proven that Margos gloves were loaded against Cotto.
Fact is Margo's trainer was putting something into Margos gloves with Mosley.
1. They attempted to cheat ! They didn't get to pull the cheat off. Was not someone or Many in the dressing room of Margo during the CoTTO fight ??
YOU know there were many people in there !!!!!!!!!
2. That slime bag trainer of RESTO ought to be in prison along with RESTO for destroying COLLINS LIFE in the ring that fateful night.
a. Look at RESTO's gloves after the fight and look at Margo's gloves after the Cotto fight , don't compare !
Margo didn't have loaded gloves or a loaded chin to take all those wicked shots from Cotto.
Margo was in GREAT SHAPE for Pacman
Margo was in GREAT shape for Cotto
Margo was in TERRIBLE shape for Mosley
IF Margo had been in Shape like for Pacman against Mosley the outcome would definitely not been the same.
Deep GAME fighters like Margo NEVER look for outside help.
Margo will KO COTTO or MAKE HIM QUIT AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's back in the gym and in the ring, working harder than 99% of fighters out there, like it or not.
Despite the loss, Margarito looked great against Pacquiao. Garcias got him throwing a great jab. He's going to ice Cotto in the rematch.
great post, fantasti.
