Middleweight king Sergio Martinez has taken a swing at Manny Pacquiao over his selection of opponents. Martinez would like to face Pacquiao at some point. He doesn't expect the fight to ever happen, because of their difference in height and weight. Instead, Martinez is focusing his energy on getting fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto.
Cotto fought for a vacant belt against Quintana. Like I said, the only fight that Cotto had that was worth mentioning was his win over Mosley. Mosley at that point was written off as he had struggled against Wright and Collazo. It wasn't until Shane beat Margarito that Shane was back at the top in the WW division.
Cotto won a hard fought battle that could have, and in many eyes should have gone the other way. And in his next fight Cotto got beaten bloody. In Cotto's next match he won another hard fought decision that could have gone the other way.
As far as 140lbs, of course Cotto did more than Floyd. No one was avoiding Cotto. Cotto had been rocked several times at 140, which only enticed other fighters to try to beat him. The best at 140lbs was Kostya Tszyu. Floyd tried to fight Tszyu before Hatton did. Tszyu didn't want the fight with Floyd. So Floyd fought Gatti. You don't remember that, huh? You don't remember Tszyu asking for a 60/40 split? Of course you don't. You probably have only been watching since 2007.
Cotto hadn't reach the #1 status until he beat Mosley. So your point is moot.
Calling Pacquiao #1 for beating his best competition at catchweights is like celebrating an NFL 3rd string quarterback winning a gold medal in the special olympics.
There's a handicap involved!!!
So many hate Floyd that they welcome any kind of bull**** that the press can come up with. Even outlandish bull****.
That's why Manny can only earn titles that are subjective and not the ones you have to beat top boxers for.
Manny has been called P4P#1 and Fighter of the Decade. That's because anyone can be a candidate. Those titles are BESTOWED upon a fighter. Most of them are magazine titles. None of them are the type in which you have to beat a current champion for. Pacquiao doesn't fight champions. Only men who lose their biggest fights.
The media can deem Pacquiao "Yellow Jesus" if they want to. His record is what has to stand up to scrutiny in the long run, and padding his record with 41 fights counts against him. Fighting his most important fights at catchweights also counts against him. Fighting everyone at welterweight as they were coming of huge losses counts against him.
I know every ******* in the world that has bought into Manny's so called "rise" like celebrities have bought into Scientology will want all the hype to be true, but you don't become the best by beating former top boxers who have fallen in rank due to being beaten RIGHT BEFORE Manny challenges them.
I'll stop here. I know that Pacquiao and Donaire are all Filipinos have in the world. I can understand why they are so adamant and desperate for recognition. So they have to exaggerate, lie and go off on racist rants to defend the hype that people are beginning to see for themselves.
