  • Manny can't fight Sergio because he's "too big".

Manny can't submit to full random OST or he'll get "weak".

Manny can't fight anyone coming off a win.

Manny can't fight Marquez.....even THREE years later...without Marquez having to move up two divisions.

What can Manny do besides fight weight drained, in-house setup, no hopers, coming off losses with a name?

What an "ATG" Manny Pac'n PED's Pacquiao is.

There'll be ALOT more bandwidth on the net once Manny fights anyone that would give him a challenge.. as once he loses there'll be mass internet account suicides. Like it or not kids.

    • Manny Pacquiao receiving criticism over recent selection of opponents

Over the weekend, Bob Arum informed Examiner.com that he will be talking to Manny Pacquiao about a potential 3rd encounter with former Golden Boy Promotions' fighter Juan Manuel Marquez. The potential 'Trilogy" fight would be scheduled for sometime in November when Manny is scheduled to step back into the ring for his second fight of 2011. Unfortunately, this news doesn't sit well with many boxing fans and some of Manny's contemporaries. Over the last 24 hours, Manny has received a storm of backlash from fans and boxers who think that Manny is picking inferior opponents.

Perhaps the one boxer who has been the most critical of Manny Pacquiao over the last few days is Sergio Martinez. The middleweight king has issued challenge after challenge toward Manny Pacquiao since his victory over Sergiy Dzinziruk on March 12th. Martinez wants a shot at the PacMan and went as far as criticizing Manny for fighting fighters who have no chance against him. On Sunday, Sergio made the following comments about Pacquiao:

"While he continues to fight with opponents who have no chance of winning, and I continue to fight against the best - one day I will [become the best pound for pound fighter]. Because I know that I have to face reality that it's almost impossible [to fight him] given the height and weight." Martinez, BoxingScene.com

Boxing fans have been filling my mailbox with emails that echo what Sergio Martinez said in his comments. These fans have been blasting Pacquiao for his recent selection of opponents which includes his upcoming fight against Mosley on May 7th. When Pacquiao first signed on to fight Shane Mosley, back in Decemeber, boxing fans took to the internet to criticize the P4P best fighter. The majority of fans all thought that the near 40 year old Mosley was too old and slow for Manny. With the possibility of Manny fighting the 37 year old Marquez later this year, the critics are loudly blasting Manny once again. The following is a sample of some of the negative emails I've received.

Jared Lincoln of California says that Manny should receive the same criticism that Mayweather Jr received for his selection of opponents. "Manny should be accused of cherry picking just like Floyd Jr has been. What's the difference?"

David Jones of Florida believes that Manny is running scared from real competition. "Why can't Manny fight a real fighter like Sergio Martinez? Mosley is too old, Marquez is too small."

Alex Victor of Canada says Manny hasn't fought anyone legit since Miguel Cotto. "Many is fighting bums instead of real fighters. First a fighter nobody has heard of Joshua Clottey, then the cheater Margarito, old man Mosley and now Marquez."

I believe that if Manny would have fought Juan Manuel Marquez on May 7th instead of Mosley, there wouldn't be much criticism. Fans who know their boxing history know that Pacquiao and Marquez had two very close fights which both ended in controversy. So a 3rd fight between the two would have been accepted. Unfortunately, Pacquiao chose to fight Mosley instead and many critics are turned off by this fight.

Adding Pacquiao's fights in 2010 against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito to the argument and fans are really furious over the recent selection of opponents for The PacMan. Ultimately, most critics feel that Manny isn't fighting boxers with similar level of skills. Despite the legitimate intrigue between Marquez and Pacquiao, fans are just too frustrated over Pacquiao's recent opponents to care about a "Trilogy" fight in November. The critics want to see a fight between Manny and Floyd Jr, or Manny against younger champions like Andre Berto and Timothy Bradley.

Not to exclude anybody, that would be pointless, just to qualify genuine interest as opposed to fly-by-night fandom.

Aside from what you may think, Manny I can handle, but grossly ignorant fan-boy flag-wavers.... I cannot.

I am not insinuating that unless you have boxed you know nothing about the sport, quite the contrary, there are many writers / analysts / managers / promoters / fans / etc, who understand the sport, after all, the best gynecologist's in the world are men..... I am just suggesting that once you walk a mile in a man's shoes you see things differently.
Nah...I only 2 guys who are pro's...Don't know a damn thing about the history of the sport.

Just cuz' you step in the ring doesn't mean you're a knowledgeable boxing guy.

            At all.

              WHOAH there !!

So, two " fulltime welterweight's " fought for a vacant JMW title ?

              WTF ?

Have you clicked why folks think that Manny should fight Martinez yet ?

                • Only thing I know is Pac fought Cotto and Margocheato. 2 guys that Floyd duck before he duck Pac. And I'm not defending Pac cause he fights at catch weights so Martinez is contradicting himself saying no hopers for Pac but he wants to fight "The Proud Son of Puerto Rico" Miguel Cotto and the ducker PBFM it makes no sense.

“I’m not a fan of the whole pound-for-pound debate. I think lists are silly but I’m weary of hearing about how great Floyd and Manny are after they beat guys they are supposed to while avoiding the one fight that would define one or both of them as truly great in the here and now. They’ve been doing that for years now and it’s old and tired.

Give me a champ who overcomes obstacles and never shies from a challenge. No asking for blood tests or catch-weights or beating someone for a vacant irrelevant belt he has no intention of ever defending in the first place.
Give me a champion who simply says, “This guy is next? Cool. I’m going to knock him in round eight. What’s more, I’m dedicating this fight to a young lady who was bullied just like I was.” Give me a champion who does this over an alleged woman beater who is so immature he can’t control himself in public or stop showing us how much money he makes in the worst recession this country has seen in decades or perhaps ever. Give me that over a fighter who says he wants to make fans happy with his fights, then signs to fight the ghost of Shane Mosley and will surely ignore Martinez’s challenge of a fight at 154-pounds.”

                    ....'nuff said gentlemen.....
Thanks for the article livershot, I missed that one.

Like I say, a few months back EVERY fighter in the top 5 P4P (apart from Manny, obviously) has shredded Pac's resume', and even other fighters / trainers / coach's / journalists, are now saying the exact same thing.

How could people not notice, unless they have their head up their arse ?
