Some facts. Americans are great at making excuses when they aren't the best at something sports related.

usa gets bronze in the basketball worlds, "we didn't send our best players"
usa doesn't win gold in the wbc, "we didn't send our best players"
no hw fighter worth a damn, "the best hw is in the nfl"

Its absolutely disgusting. I don't see why its so hard for americans to admit that they just aren't the best at some things, sometimes.

Its that type of attitude that makes the rest of the world look at you as pompous a ssholes.

I think its difficult to determine who would or wouldn't be successful based on athletic ability alone.Heart is the biggest determining factor and no one knows who has it until they actually get in the ring.

As far as the decline in boxing's popularity....I think it has more to do with the blatant corruption, to many weight classes and titles, and its overall lack of organization. If it was run like the NFL, NBA or MLB it would be much easier to market. No unions, no benefits,no heath care, no retirement fund equals less reason to go into the sport from a business stand point. This is compounded by a faltering amateur program that is struggling to turn out top fighters not because there is no talent, but because there are less and less quality trainers today.

Tommy Z is a PRIME EXAMPLE OF THAT! He would rather play in the NFL and pursue his boxing career LATER because obviously the NFL is PAYING HIM MILLIONS compared to him just jumping into boxing and not really sure how much he will be paid for certain matches and not knowing when he will get the BIG PAYDAY FIGHTS...NO TOP ATHLETE IN AMERICA is turning down the NBA or the NFL for BOXING that is no excuse...THAT IS FACTS!

I think DIRTY EVIL PROMOTERS is what pushed a lot of guys from Boxing

As for the guys in America who do Box...especially the Heavyweight Division, you can tell by looking at their bodies they don't probably work as hard or eat correctly it is DISGUSTING to see some of these FAT GUYS in the Heavyweight Division lol

Also Trainers are now doing in JUST FOR MONEY, you don't see the Boxer/Trainer "Father/Son" type of relationship like you seen back in the day with ALI and Angelo Dundee, Hagler and the The Petronelli Brothers, Lennox Lewis and Steward, guys who stayed with the same Trainer LONG TERM...WIN OR LOSE, guys today are changing trainers every chance they get

This is exactly what Im talking about.

I am going to say it again, that whole argument is based on some imaginary American athlete who doesn't exist being the HW champion if he existed which at this time he doesn't.

Its really sad how ppl can't accept that we are not the best at something anymore.

Not every "yank" has excuses. We're not dominant in boxing anymore in comparison to what we were. But there are circumstances and reasons to support why. That doesn't mean the rest of the world wouldn't have caught up any way.

All the 200+ pounders in the States are not in the NFL. There are over thousands of guys taller than 6'3" playing college basketball. Add a thousand in the NBA and CBA. There are are Thousands of guys over 200 lbs. playing college, minor league and major league baseball. Most of the thousands of hockey players in the states probably weigh over 200 too.

So the idea that the thousands of American football players, college and pro that never seen boxing gym are the only reason American heavyweights are not boxing. The truth is that most inner city boxing gyms have been closed and the best way to make it here out of the city is televised team sports, thats where the money is. And boxing unfortunitely is not a big sport here now like it was 20-30 years ago. Blame the American networks, blame the people that say it is too violent. But quit throwing around that un-athletic American crap. I seen you guys play basketball. lol Stick to boxing.
