They have quick twitch fibers like a Floyd Mayweather Jr. has. I can promise you those rugby players would not excel in boxing. As for soccer, yes some of the smaller dudes certainly would do well but soccer is your sport, boxing(despite you creating it) is Americas sport and one of its past time. Soccer will always get your best athletes but for a while our best either played baseball, track, or boxing. We don't like the change and have seen the effects in recent decades.
That's the one problem with your argument. I agree to an extent and disagree also. Fighters are a special breed. Mike Tyson would not have made a good footballer or basketballer.

But, a good athlete is just that. The sport then trains them a certain way. Rugby will train them to be big, strong and fast. Much bigger and stronger than BBall because they need to be. They do more weight and strength training. If they did more speed training they would be faster.

They aren't like that from the moment they come out of the womb. Every sport trains their athletes a certain way.

It's still an interesting argument though: Why do you think it's only in the US that all the great athletes have gone to ball games etc and not Europe where soccer/football and other games are not only much bigger and more popular, but they are more widespread, the players get more fame and money and it takes just as much athleticism?

It's a bit of a double standard there. I think it's as much a case of a bad generation than anything along with the promotion and corruption of boxing killing it off in general. Although it's not dead and never will be, boxing is a dying sport. The best fighters are not as good all around anymore, the overall competition is much weaker and the trainers and gyms are lacking severely. It's a combination of lots of things.

But, if it's true for the US that all the great boxers are playing other sports, in which money and fame are greater, then it's just as true for Europe as sport is even bigger over there and the rewards even greater, unless you kick an own goal, lose the game for your side and get killed by crazed fans.

******est thing iv'e ever heard and i mean ever. Rugby players, at least NRL players here in Austr make the easiest transition from their sport to boxing than any other. NRL players have nothing but quick twitch muscle fibers you donkey. The reason they make good boxers is because they have great speed and power. The fullbacks, wingers and centers have blistering speed....made all the more impressive when you consider their size and strength.

Take a man like Greg Inglis for example. He is 195cm and 114kg. He has drawn interest from NFL before as a line-backer. A brilliant athlete. Jarryd Hayne, Sonny Bill Williams.

Anthony Mundine a former top NRL player.

Give me a break son.....you should see the athleticism, speed, power and size of some NRL players here in Australia.

Boxers are the best athletes on the planet bar none.

I've seen NFL players litterally be in tears because of a sprained ankle, imagine them trying to take punches LOL

If Gordon Ramsey wasn't a chef he would have been a middleweight champ.

                Fact.

Is England good at any sport? As far as I know, you suck at all of the international sports. While the U.S. is winning major competitions in basketball, ice hockey, volleyball, track and field, etc., the English are getting their asses handed to them in games they invented. And by great athletic countries like India...

One thing I know for sure... you guys suck big time in boxing.
Really? England 1 World Cup, USA 0 World Cups (and it'll stay at 0, you can count on it), so come again? And I'm spanish BTW.

Thread starter is just mad that his boys aren't getting any credit. But the fact of the matter is that the money in sports isn't in boxing.
