Tye Fields had a passion for Basketball, not Boxing. He pursued basketball and boxing was his back-up plan. He probably would have been a much better boxer if boxing was his number 1 sport but no of course there's no guarantee that he would have become a HW Champion if boxing was his number 1 sport. My point was that if there was great US HW boxer around in 2011... then he would be boxing, not throwing a ball into a little hoop.

Let me give you an example.

Brock Lesnar, UFC champion, great FIGHTER, freak of nature athlete, ****** at american football.

Great athletes CAN make good fighters, but it's not transferrable, fighting is a mentality, maybe some can cross over but very few indeed.

Lebron James is far more likely to have been another audley harrison or michael grant than the next Muhammed Ali.

i don't understand how its an excuse...its well documented that less american athletes of that size box these days. they have other sports to choose. if you look at elite athletes in most sports in america this day and age many are roughly the size of a heavyweight. with less of a talent pool to choose from its inevitable that the state of american heavyweight boxing becomes weaker.

Winning the group doesnt mean much. You only drew against us because our goalkeeper threw the ball in the net.

We play sports interntationally. We compete against other countires. Unlike you, who play most of your sports amoungst yourselves.

Just because Basketball isnt big in England...doesnt mean it isnt in the rest of Europe...for example....Pau Gasol is a really big star in Spain...it just gets dwarfed by Football......its probably the second biggest sport for most European countries that dont play cricket or Rugby...whcih is about 80% of Europe.....

That's a really ignorant point.

Basketball is a very popular sport in the U.S. Boxing is not popular at all. I don't know a single person who competed in boxing as a youngster.

If you want to grow up to be a great basketball player, there is plenty of opportunity to develop in the US. It is very easy to get into a game at any age or skill level.

If you want to grow up to be a great boxer, you would pretty much have to move to a place where a good boxing gym existed. So that rules out 90% of the country...

The idea that you are just "born" a great boxer is just plain ******. You have to start at a young age and compete against tougher and tougher competition as you develop.

Boxing isn't like latin, you don't need to be taught it at school, everyone knows that it exists and even if it isn't currently covered in the mainstream media, people still get into it, which is why we are all here on these boards. I just think the NFL/NBA is an easy cop out for why the US has no currently relevant HW.
