Lebron James is far more likely to have been another audley harrison or michael grant than the next Muhammed Ali.

This excuse is lame, i am sick of excuses.
WTF are you talking about? Lesnar would have made an incredible football player. In fact, he came very close to making an NFL team when he tried out in his late twenties, despite not even playing college football. The coaches were amazed at how good he was, but in the end he was a late pre-season cut.

Just stop embarassing yourself please. All of your questions and comments come across as very ignorant. Of course Foreman, Ali and Liston would have played in the NFL.

And your comments about the speed in rugby... How many GOLD medal sprinters have played rugby? You obviously don't know **** about American football.

Some American's have made comments about the NBA/NFL being the reason why the US doesn't have a great HW at the moment, hence this thread. My point is that they have a passion for and chose the sport that they get paid to do. If they had a passion for boxing then they would box. I mentioned Tye Fields as he is a prime example as he is a basketball player who failed in the NBA, has all the physical tools to become a great boxer so took up boxing but failed because he thought he could just walk into the sport because he was a giant and had physical advantages over most of his opponents but when he came up against guys who had a passion for boxing and had taken the sport seriously and been training for 15-20 years in the sport, he got KTFO.

Boxing doesn't depend solely on athletic ability there are other attributes not visible that need to be present which football and basketball lets be honest because they are much easier don't bring out.

Again though you are using the argument about an American fighter who doesn't exist who could be great if he did.

Couldn't I do the same about some random Euro guy in Ali's time beating him if he existed?
Not sure what your on about here...there were many great fighers from Euro countries such as England and Germany....or are you talking about Eastern Europe......

The Eastern European countries did compete in the amateur ranks and did not tend to dominate...I know the pro game and amateur game is different but if that was an exceptional region for fighters to come out of...they would have shown some stronghold in the amateur ransks.....

Many great fighters lost in the Olympics and went on to be outstanding pros, its different less rounds no head gear but its not the point I am not talking about that lets say any Euro athlete who was not a boxer from that time.

If I said some other Euro athlete could have beaten Ali in the Olympics but he picked another sport and didn't box isn't that basically the same thing you are saying?

There arent other sports that in Europe that have risen as much as the NBA and NFL has......Soccer in Europe was always seen as the most popular sport.....it wasnt as though Eastern Euro fighters were dominating footabll and then once they were allowed to turn pro, they stopped dpminating football...there were no signs of this...where as in America...America did use to do well in boxing...thus the NBA and NFL being seen as the reason as to why this could be.....

So my question to you, just to understand where your coming from is this...

Had Tye Fields been introduced to boxing first rather then B-ball would he have won all his fights...???

cuz **** for coming into a sport in 99 with little training he still won 45 fights be they against bums or not, 45 fights off pure thinking he's a giant and had a physical advantage is some what impressive, he may not have been great but damn, why did people think he was going to be good in the 1st place?, could it be because he was a former star athlete in a as-formentioned sport which American thrive in... **** im sure had there been some other guys or top b-ball players or football stars with his same mindset to join boxing, maybe they could've done better!!

The question is why isnt there any good American HWs/Champs

A good answer because Football and Basketball absorbing all are monsters,, Prison too!

America is still one of the most dominant nations as far as boxing goes. The difference is in the heavyweight class. The most popular American sports favor large athletes.

Starting early makes a huge difference. It is very hard to be truly world class in any major sport if you did not start playing/practising at a young age.

All the best boxers are playing football.

Lionel Messi would have too much speed and footwork for Mayweather or Pacquiao.
