When you're talking "great american heavyweights" of the modern era, you're really talking black american heavyweights.
I understand a lot of people from other countries get annoyed about it, but the fact of the matter is black Americans don't go into boxing anymore. Things have changed, and any young black person thats thats big, strong, and athletic is positioned from the time they're young to excel in NFL or NBA.
How do I know? I went to a black high school) and historic black college (Langston U, Oklahoma). These places used to be the breeding grounds of black boxers in the last century. They certainly aren't any more. Kids that go to the gym to box are either doing it as a hobby, or putting their focus on boxing after their plans of a career in the NBA or NFL didn't happen. I think this is also why former NBA/NFL guys are trying to become boxers now; they would have been boxers if they weren't pressured to go into other sports.
I'm sorry but people that aren't from America are in no position to argue, because they really don't have the slightest idea.
