They are promoting Canelo with this belt, it's that simple. He is ONLY 20 years old and no BS belt can take that fact away. Just like Roy Jones Jr said, "if I was 20 and they were offering me the same thing in this belt, of course I would take it...."

Unlike most understand, Canelo has fought very good opposition for his age and is fighting at a very high level. They are going to treat this kid with white gloves, much like they did Trinidad and Cotto once they knew what they had.

Then with a few fights unders his belt, the big money fight will come. I really don't understand the criticism of this kid, I really don't.

Yes he needs better defense but he's strong, accurate and has the will to fight. IF they handle this kid good, he's going to be a real champ one day soon.
Then that means he will fight top, tough fighters right?

I mean Tito beat the IBF MW champ in Maurice Blocker in 1993, then in 1994, just 1994 mind you fought Campas, Carr, and Camacho...Alll contenders both Campas and Carr were undefeated.

Cotto won a few vacant straps in his career. But, after winning them fought tough competition.

So yes I agree Alvarez should be held to the same standards as Tito and Cotto.

Fight better competition from here on out...No more Matthew Hattons, shot old Tata's and Ndou's .

You know, it's really hard to disagree with you when you have a Zapata quote in your signature, so I'll try to handle it lightly.

Please understand I'm not criticizing Saul, for one, I think he can be a terrific fighter if handled correctly. I am criticizing the way Golden Boy are pushing him into the spotlight so early without paying the price for it.

Like others have mentioned the current laughable belt situation, tt is the unfortunate case in boxing today that a champion can fight bums.

Why not set an example with Canelo? He'd get all my respect if he fought Top 5 competition in the division now that he has a belt.

You can say all you want that every other belt-holder is fighting tomato cans, but that doesn't make it right for Alvarez to do the same.

i feel bad for devon alexander. he's only three years older than canelo, has less fights, has fought witter, urango, koltelnik and bradley, and no one uses his age as an excuse. poor guy.

You aint alone. He wont improve because he hasnt shown any to this point. If he cant get a guy out who waited to get hit then where do you go from there. He'll be exactly what he is. A brawler who tries to over power his opponents. They keep acting like some magic light will go off in 2 years.

None of the guys fight tough fight or the elites in the division yet here people want this kid to go face the elites. When top tier fighters them selfs dont do it.
Should we look at Cotto resume? After winning his first vacant title?

Should we count how many times Moreno went on to the opponents backyard and fought contenders after winning the title?

Didn't Haye unify a division after winning a title?

Lopez is a 2 division title holder FFS's.

Anyways. no Berto? Exactly I shit on Berto because he does not act like a true title holder. If Alvarez goes on the Berto I will shit on him too. And, shame on you for giving him a pass. If he's not ready then don't go for the title. I felt the same way about Berto.

              No excuses.

Of course they don't. Because, a lot these mofo's are Nationalistic hypocrites.

If Canelo was Irish a lot of these mofo's that are going on bat for the kid would be shittin on him.

                  Disgraceful.

First off Tito was 22 when he fought a past his prime Camacho and Cotto didn't even make his debut until he was 21.

So yes, they were handled with white gloves in their careers when they found out what they had. I'm not criticizing, just saying that's how it is in this sport.

Whether you like it or not Canelo IS only 20, he didn't ask for this belt, it was Suleiman and Golden Boy as you said pushing him. So don't come down on the kid or even think he won't be good because we don't know just yet.

                      But........

It would be IDIOTIC for Golden Boy to put him in there with a top 5 guy, not right now. Let the kid mature, let him learn the sport more and then he will get that big fight. I agree with you, it's frustrating the way the promoters do what they do but it's always been this way in boxing.

Can't blame or criticize the kid.
