Canelo's Age Should no Longer be an Excuse.

We all know he's just twenty years old, but that goes out the window once you have a belt. That's it, you've made the conscious decision to challenge for a world championship and must now play with the big boys.

I would have no problem if Alvarez continued to fight less than stellar opposition for the next year or so as long as he wasn't taking up HBO airtime. But now that he is in the spotlight, he must deliver.

You can blame Golden Boy for moving Canelo along too quickly, but you can't have the cake and not share it so to speak. Legitimate contenders must now get a crack at that belt. And if GB had no intention of putting Alvarez against top tier opposition they should have never expedited him to this point.

If he wants to be a man, his age can no longer be used as a factor. "oh but he's so young, he needs time to develop..." Sorry, but if anything he's already bigger than some of the guys in the division, both figuratively and literally.

No hate against the guy, he's very talented and has a bright future, but we can no longer give him a break.

You would have a valid point if world titles actually meant something. Which they dont today.

Anyone with a boxing IQ can tell you Canelo is NOT a real 154 champ nor is he ready for the top guys.

Titles do mean something or else nobody would be trying to win them.

Canelo though does have the popularity to throw them in the garbage if he wants, but Sulaiman will sanction any fight he's in for the title (clearly).

If he wasn't ready then he shouldn't have gone after the World title.

Not that he's a World title, even though he's not the lineal champ, just a paper. He now has to act like a true champ and fight top contenders.

Is not only, is all these title holders. Being 20 is not an excuse anymore. He will be held to the SAME standards as the rest of the title holders.

So your telling me Canelo is a legit 154 Champion? As in he defeated the real 154 champ to get that title?

Canelo is a paper champ, meaning he isnt a champion, meaning that title aint shit.

Totally agree about the paper titles, but if GB wants to use that as a marketing gimmick they must pay the price. You can't be a title-holder (no matter how little it means to us serious fans) and just use it to attract people to fights against B-class competition, when there are hungry fighters out there who want that belt, for whatever it's worth.

That title is just a prompt for promotion. Similar to Pacquiao's 8 world titles, GBP can say "Canelo was the youngest champion at 154" and such.

However his age is still a huge factor. He's still a child. If he keeps training the way he is now, no doubt he'll get stronger and faster.

Exactly, but it looks like he'll be another Andre Berto sitting fat on the belt fighting bums on HBO.
