Zsolt Erdei was the lineal title holder until he vacated and moved up to Cruiserweight. While he held the title he fought a long line of nobodies and never showed any interest in fighting anyone ranked in the top 10 of any credible independent rankings, so it was a huge relief to everyone who cares about boxing when he chose to vacate his title.
That said, as someone who vacated his title in order to move up in weight, who didn't lose his title in the ring, and who has now moved back to Light Heavyweight, he does deserve a shot at the title. But he needs to fight a credible top 10 fighter in order to get himself back into the mix. Samson Onyango is about as far from being a credible opponent as you can get - he barely makes boxrec's top 200. And that choice of opponent is typical of Erdei, and is the only reason he has remained unbeaten for so long.
