A few things I took from this. First was the fact that Wrestlemania did only 500,000 buys. It wasn't that long ago that Wrestlemania was getting a million buys every time. WWF has dramatically dropped over recent years.
Second thing I noticed and you can ***** all you want about it is the decline in the UFC. Sure, their numbers look strong right now(due to the amount of events) but if you look deeper into it there is some concerns. Firstly, I don't buy that their numbers aren't inflated a bit but for arguments sake I'll just say those are the actual. They had 3 million buy PPV's and then there is nearly a 300,000 buy drop off. 2 of those million buy PPVs are from a crossover WWF star who is towards the end of his career(or possibly leaving for the WWE) and one of them is from one of their mount rushmore of superstars Rampage Jackson(the man that was involved in the biggest MMA event of all time). It doesn't seem like anyone is absolutely killing it for them and they aren't building superstars like they did when the sport was the next big thing in 2006.
UFC is doing well don't get me wrong but I think it's time to put the whole "it's the fastest growing sport" **** to bed. Its built a fan base, just like boxing, but now MMA has leveled out and won't be taking anything over. You can expect a normal 500,000 buys from the diehards of UFC but that's where it looks like it stops. As a boxing fan I would be generally happy with this trend we see.
MMA is earning more money than boxing. Boxing is dying i tell u. Boxing should get rid of boring boxers if they want to survive.
Man there is some ignorant ***s up in here. Get rid of boxing boxers you say? Isn't the guy in your avatar synonymous for being boring? Yeah, I thought so. Go back to your childish website Sherdog. We try not to tolerate ******s here.
Didn't take long for all the MMGAY **** to swarm into this thread.Boxing is a sport, not some brand like the UFC.The only two products that you can compare in regards to PPV buyrates is the UFC and the WWE - as,business wise, they're pretty much the same thing.
And besides,Dave Meltzer is not a credible source. He doesn't have the real numbers because the UFC doesn't give them. Why the hell should we belive his "estimated" numbers?
boxing may be taking a bit of a smacking from the UFC in the USA, but in the UK boxing reins supreme by an absoloute country mile, there simply isn't any comparrison.
there might be less USA fighters/ stars in the future if a lot prefer to play other sports, but that's OK as boxing survives without the USA, the sport is too good to be totally dependant on 1 country.
i'm not worried. the money is in boxing. if it was on it's death bed, then it will enjoy a massive revival very quickly as fighters will swarm to take on easy paydays against tomato cans. it's not happening, not how i see it anyway. with the money, there will always be people drawn to compete for the prize.
Man boxing is in danger here. When Pac and Floyd retires no more 500k+ ppv for boxing. UFC on the other hand can make 1 mil buys easily cause they have more fans.
