I saw khan try to headbutt as well and cortez didnt say **** but i dont really know if he even saw that. But yeah dude every time maidana was going in for the stoppage cortez broke them up and good for maidana to keep swinging after cortez tried breaking it up for no reason i wouldve too ****. Man khan was fighting dirty as well. Fight couldve been stopped yeah sure he wasnt completely out there but he was stunned for a long period of time that is too much punishment.

Junior welterweight Marcos Maidana claims referee Joe Cortez cost him a victory last Saturday at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Madiana had WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan in a lot of trouble in the tenth round. Khan was seriously hurt and taking punishment. Maidana claims Cortez would not allow him to work on the inside to finish Khan off.

Im not a real big fan of either fighter but respect them both. Cortez was definitely getting in the way too much, breaking for no reason (other than to help Khan?). I found myself yelling at the TV," Get the hell out of the way!". I dont want to hear that Cortez was "angry" either. He is suppose to be a professional not angry and biased.

People I understand you're concerns about Cortez, but this is nothing new is it? This guy must have a serious hatred for inside fighting/clinching.

Nevertheless he was certainly fair on some points.

Yet he would allow Kahn all the clinching he could throughout the whole but wouldn't allow any inside fighting? That's his problem. He's a terrible, terrible ref. You have to allow both guys their styles of fighting and he ruins fighters chances when he doesn't.

All those times Khan was golding one arm and Maidana kept punching, that's allowed. You are meant to let that keep going. It's only when both guys are clinched and nothing is happening that you stop it. Cortez was jumping in and then warning Maidana for hitting during those exchanges.

He's a joke and too self important.

Saw the referee's performance and nothing wrong with what i saw from him, Maidana was deducted a point for throwing his elbow after Cortez broke them up, Maidana also was doing alot of rabbit punches that Cortez didnt do anything about, I think the KD/Kidney shot mess up Maidana gameplan/head really bad.

Really the only people defending the ref are people from the UK, and Europe. Everyone else thinks the ref did a horrible job, and he interfered way to much.

Props to Kahn, its not his fauld the ref was playing favorites and he fought his fight.

However with another ref, this fight could have ended much differently.

I think Cortez did play favorites. Khan trapped Marcos' arm and one hand was free to punch which you could do but Marcos was reprimanded for it......I think Marcos got shafted.
