The ref and Khan's holding and running won it for him. It would have only been the FOTY if Maidana sparked him out. If Maidana had just a tad bit more left in the tank, he would have stopped Khan in the 10th, Khan got lucky. It'll be another 5 years before we see Khan in there with a top class puncher, it's back to fighters with low KO percentages. I don't think highly of Ortiz or like him, but he KO's Khan.

The holding was a joke. If any other boxer other than a gbp fighter did that he would be deducted points. Every time maidana got close khan grabbed his right arm. over and over. Cortez is a joke!!!!!!!!

after the 10th, khan was out on his feet after that beating chino gave him. watch him as he shuffles back to his corner after the end of the round. he needed a GPS, a map, and a seeing eye dog to find his corner, but somehow he made it there.

with khan sitting on his stool, freddie considered stopping the fight. he asked khan some questions to gauge his ability and desire to continue. khan's answers satisfied roach. in other words, khan had a golden opportunity to quit like ortiz, but he didn't. he ****** it up. that shows desire, heart, and courage.

Cortez did a pretty horrible job and that could of swayed the fight. However, Khan still needs his credit. He produced a very skillful performance and showed tons of heart. Both guys were great last night, it was a tremendous fight.

for cortez breaking up the fighters all the time, it affected both fighters as Khan was not able to clinch and hold in the 10th and a bit in the 11th.

I agree that Cortez ****** like always. I remember when he cost Hatton having a competitive fight and allowed him to be elbowed silly before getting knocked out. I remember him disqualifying Humberto Soto for hitting a guy as he went down and the guy on the floor acting. I remember JM Marquez saying that he will not fight if Cortez was a ref prior to the two incidents

When I first tuned in to the fight I the first thing I said was:

WTF is Cortez doing in a major fight? I thought they had beat his dumb ass down to less important fights after his crappy referring. He should be banned from the sport. Anytime they would get close together even if they werent clinched but Maidana was in range he'd separate them.

Khans excessive holding at the end also warranted a point or two.

However, I do not think Maidana would have won if it had not been for Cortez. He looked out of gas early in the fight when Khans stamina was about to buckle.

Tonight was disgusting. We all saw the corruption in boxing at its finest. We all saw what a ref does with a couple extra bucks on his paycheck.

Its safe to say Maidana was fighting two people in the ring at once today. its clear Cortez got paid off in Khans favor. Everytime Maidana clinched or pushed Khan in his favor, Cortez jumped in to save Khan.

When Khan was holding on when he was about to get KTFO Cortez allowed it. If that was Maidana hurt im sure Cortez would of jumped in and stopped the fight on Maidana.

Maidana elbow...First off all you cowards, Maidana didnt elbow Khan. Maidana tapped Cortez's chest and took a point off. When Maidana was on his groove, Cortez stopped it.

Plain and simple, this wasnt Maidana at his best. Maidana looked a lot better vs Kotelnik where he was robbed and vs Ortiz.

I have to admit, I'm a khan fan but it did seem like the odds were against maidana..I think khan did feel the evil of maidana, but to be fair that dude is one scary bastard, almost not fear or despair in his eyes he is a killer.
I'd love a rematch, in khans defense, it couldve been the pressure of his Vegas debut, and he's still learning, a rematch would see khan win better I think
