There are 5 race categories - white, black, native indian/alaskan indian; hawaiian/pacific islander; asian. Hispanic is an ethnic group not a race. As stated already, there are white hispanics, black hispanics, and native indian hispanics and a mixture of races as well (in the case of most caribbean nationalities (spanish, black, and indian). Bottomline - Sergio is a white hispanic. So what's the point here?

What a ridiculous post..ok...let me do some quick math
....a white dude discovered America from what is TAUGHT so the white dude claimed that....a white dude claimed to be the first cat on the moon....white dudes from back in the days claimed to be the best fighters in the world, even though they PURPOSELY and OPENLY avoided a certain race of fighters....white dudes use to STEAL music from a certain race of rhythmally gifted artist and claim it as their own...Elvis is a prime example.....white dudes even took symbols from Egypt and now claim them as their own.....there's a pyramid in EVERY major city in the world!!!!!
NOW....after last night's SPECTACULAR knock out win against Paul "I get Punished...know what I'm sayin'" Williams....white dudes are claiming Sergio Martinez as well?!?

Who ****in cares? The Americans love a big race debate, always kicks off. Race is irrelevant. Or is it so engrained in their countrys short history they can't help themselves?
There not shy on telling the world how great the U.S. are but always makes me laugh when you meet a yank cause the 1st thing they want to do is tell you where they originate and there ancetry " I've got Irish, Scots blood" I'm an African American etc etc
I just wish you's would realise yous are all immigrants, your race is irrelevant. Pisses me off more than seemingly intelligent people bring race up.
I do understand there is huge culural differenes between my world (central Scotland) and what many of you's will live but this is a boxing forum ffs...........Comment

Martinez appears to be white/of Spanish decent, not latino.
The problem is no way would he get as much credit if he was recognized as being white. Everyone says what does is matter.. Bullshit..Race seems to matter a lot on this site. No way would the latinos on this site would accept Martinez being white.
Personally I dont care what color he is.

Calling Latino/Hispanic a race is like calling "American" a race
im from the middle east but growing up in LA white/spanish hispanics as well as greeks, iranians, italians, etc considered me one of them. Most of my girlfriends were southern European but born in Mexico or wherever.
dark/native hispanics just saw me as a whiteboy to pick fights with same as the black kids did, in really racially divided areas trust me nobody gives a **** about argentina being "latino" its based on what you look like = racial lines
geography, language, culture, etc are all their own thing and race/genetics is its own thingComment

The reason Martinez' being white is being brought up is because of all the "slick african-american" talk lately. It's ironic as hell that after a minor firestorm over Pacquaio avoiding slick AA's, a slick white fighter starches a P4P African American.Comment
