Taylor was punished over 7 hard rounds.

Paul got knocked cold in 2.

Besides, TS was arguing that the punishment Williams had taken before tonight was the key factor in why he was knocked out by that shot.

While I disagree with that (I think the punch was just that good a punch), the punishment Paul's taken in his career before tonight will be far more damaging to the longevity of Williams' present style than the KO tonight.

Hope Williams gets a tune up before his next big fight. Great catch by Martinez.

Watching this fight makes me appreciate the klitchsos even more. They fight tall, use the jab and are defense oriented. Its so hard to catch one of them clean. Pwill could be the Klitchkos of the Jr Middleweight / Middleweight division. He just needs the right trainer. He got caught up in the hype of fight of the year sequel and Pac Marg last week and wanted to trade with Martinez. Emanuel Steward knows how to train fighters like Pwill, he trained Hearns and Wlad and If I was Pwill I would stop Emanuel on his way to his car and ask him to be my trainer.

Pwill is still a young figher, he can come back from this stronger than ever but only if he changes his style and fights to his advantages

taylor got ruined by bhop imho. nothing steward could've done.

andy lee just isn't that good.

all pwill needs is some defense and he should be good to go. you don't even have to teach him to fight tall, just keep your hands up when you hook.

There are quite a few guys at 154 that i dont think Pw would be able to handle their power. Cetianly shouldn't retire though.

There was a thread a while back where I postulated that P4P Wlad might (not was, but might) be a more skillful fighter than Williams, based on the fact that he knows exactly how to use his height to win fights and Williams does not. My points were shot down and ridiculed without (predictably) any decent counter argument for doing so. In hindsight this doesn't look so ludicrous now, does it? Williams skill level is and always has been very low for a fighter at his level and it was only a matter of time before he would be made to pay for his horrible defence, sloppy punching style and predictable rhythm. I'm not really sure what Steward could do with him to honest. At best he could make him into a middleweight Rid**** Bowe style fighter (whom he shares some stylistic attributes with) but like Bowe, Williams has taken a lot of punishment throughout his career and might be damaged goods already. Not only that but he really doesn't strike me as possessing the sort of in-ring intelligence or discipline to ever really change his style.

I'll still continue to watch him, but I fear his days at the top are over.

I was just arguing this with my dad....a killer punch early in a fight isn't that bad, just kills your confidence for a while but it's not as bad as recieving a Margarito-Pacquiao type beat down over 12 rounds getting your brain rattled...I rather be put to sleep quick

                  Paul can recover
but its also scientific fact that once you take shot like that the body is usually less resistant

getting hurt goes against the human psyche....therefore when the brain understands that going to sleep is the way to stop the punches......well its more likely to shut you down.

plus as a fighter with his style....being gun shy is going to be very bad

i hope im wrong... i like the kid...but i think when we look back there will be a marker on this fight for the change in Paul Williams

No, what Paul Williams needs is to get back on that diet, and go back to Welterweight. I'm sure he can still take a good punch from a smaller 147 pounder.

I don't think he should retire all he has to do is learn how to box properly, having that huge reach and not using it propperly is just ******.
