arum wanted to make a mayweather margarito fight and mayweather wanted no part of that so he took off to make his own easy fights. arum was jeopardizing mayweather's undefeated record i guess you could call that holding him back.
"Arum said Mayweather preferred to await the outcome of the May 6 Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga fight instead of committing to Margarito because he would prefer to fight De La Hoya."- Dan Rafael

Arum was not going to make a fight with Floyd after he left him to do his own thing. What easy fights? He got the fights he wanted under Arum (Hatton and DLH) and made more money without Arum and became a superstar without Arum.

Tell me why guys like DLH and Floyd became bigger stars and made more money after they left TR.

Floyd would not be making at least 40M per fight and be the star he is today if he was still with Arum. Why can't people understand that?
you said cotto was scared after watching mayweather destroy gatti. cotto saw gomez destroy gatti as well. wouldn't he be just as scared because gomez looked great against the punching bag just like floyd did. gomez actually knocked gatti out though where as the corner stopped it against floyd. it seems cotto should be more scared of gomez.

THEN CRITICS ARE GOING TO ASK HIM AFTER BEATING HATTON AND DE LA HOYA TO GO AFTER THE UP AND COMERS IN A DIVISION IN WHICH HE CONVINCINGLY BEATS THE NUMBER ONE AND TWO GUYS A MERE YEAR BEFORE???!!! TS, in Floyd's position, would it really make much sense in that point in time?
judah wasn't #2 when floyd fought him.

hello he just lost to baldomir. he dropped in the rankings a bit.

I'm sure it's been broken down to you before, but let me help you out......

Before Zab and Baldi fought, Zab was champ and so was Baldi (Don't remember the commish off top).
The plan was for Zab to get Baldis belt, then fight Floyd for all the marbles. Zabs dumb azz ended up losing, but the plans were set. Zab was gonna be undisputed, but when he lost Baldi became undisputed.
In a nutshell (On paper) Baldi was the MAN!

Baldi was not THE MAN in the division by no means (Neither was Diaz, Oscar, Ricky, "Cotto was a good fight but the 2 pounds was puzzy, Clottey or Margs.
It was all about money, belts and being the man according to the books.

I agree he should have atleast fought Cotto (Pre Brick beating), but margs was nobody at the time (I think we know now how he became SOMEBODY)

Marg loaded and Boosted on God knows what................. 80% chance Marg beats BOTH guys period....

2 reasons he did't figfht Marg..

          1. Better biz move.
          &

          2. The same reason Manny and team waited for Serg to be stripped. Then sign to fight Marg for his belt right after that.
both non ranked, one has never fought there to be ranked, all the guys that were ranked and had been fighting there got skipped..
          Sound about rite?
too many facts for biased opinionated posters to read

He's going to be afraid of a guy that was on a TV boxing show, is too slow, has no defense, has no power, had no resume, and beat a way past prime and shot Gotti.

He's going to feat a TV show boxer more than an ATG fighter? Do you guys really believe some of the **** you guys post on here?

Why would Cotto be scared of a guy like Gomez who lost in his career and was a nobody coming from a TV show?

"De La Hoya returned from a 20-month layoff May 6 to win a 154-pound title by knocking out Ricardo Mayorga in the sixth round. Afterward, De La Hoya said he was giving serious thought to walking away on top despite the possibility of earning perhaps as much as $30 million to fight Mayweather.

He detailed various injuries that he said would make it hard for him to go through another training camp as grueling as the one he put himself through to get ready for Mayorga."- Dan Rafael

*keep in mind that De La Hoya didn't make his decision to fight FMJ until 2007. C'mon man, I know Mayweather is arrogant, but give him at least an ounce of credit.

"Baldomir, of Argentina, was unknown when he upset undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah in January in New York, Judah's hometown. Baldomir parlayed that victory into a July 22 fight against popular Arturo Gatti, stopping him with ease in the ninth round in Atlantic City, N.J., Gatti's home base."- Dan Rafael

I don't know how much more proof you need. In a way, his rankings did drop because he became number 2 when Baldo beat him, THUS MAKING BALDO NUMBER 1
