4/20/02 W 12 JOSE LUIS CASTILLO (controversial decision, as 5-1 favorite Mayweather outlanded 203-158 by Castillo, who threw 506 total punches to 449 for Floyd (37 per round). Castillo landed 173 of 377 (46%) power shots to just 67 of 152 (44%) for Floyd. After outlanding Castillo 48-27 in first 4 rounds (swept rounds on all cards), Mayweather was outlanded in every round after, including 26-11 in round 7, 35-20 in round 11. Castillo also had edge in power connects in every round.

Castillo landed 40% to Mayweather's 35% and out-landed him, very significantly in power shots despite being a 5-1 betting favorite against a bigger pressure fighter (sound familiar?).

So again- does this mean Floyd isn't slick?

Thats exactly his point and this a key factor when evaluating this Matchup. Floyd is the most accurate and best defensive fighter in the sport. The fact that PAC has no defense and when Marquez,Cotto, Clottey, & Margarito can bust his face up, what do you think Mayweather will do?

May I ask why you think that?

Pac is a volume puncher. When was the last time Floyd fought a volume puncher? He lowers the output of counter punchers, and grapplers and what have you but when has he ever lowered the output of a volume puncher? When was the last time he faced one? Castillo? 8 years ago? Chavez threw 100 punches in plenty of rounds against him....

I have yet to really see him reduce the output drastically of a volume puncher. Not saying he can't, but haven't really seen it. So I don't know if he can or can not plus he is slowing down now, so is Pac. So I really don't know...

the difference is, both of those guys can get it on inside a phone booth, pacquiao cant do that and would likely get massacred if you took away his ability at midrange. on the inside mayweather doesnt need space to get off.

The problem really has been with the matchups, pacquiao has been in with guys who either cant match him with handspeed, cant match him with footwork or are simply "bigger than him" with no intangibles in the ring to take him on, which is why im not so quick to give him this massive respect that everyone is giving him.

Notice how you mentioned floyd against volume punchers, we havent seen pacquiao in there with someone who can match him in handspeed and footwork, we saw it with mayweather, the basis to judge mayweather against those styles...there is at least something to go on, with pacquiao they match him up against styles they know wont pose an issue,

Pacquiao needs to be at midrange to be effective, mayweather could stay on the outside or make it ugly on the inside, Pacquiao cant train for that, no matter how good roach is.
