Harder Hitter

By the way, why is it so inconceivable to think that an athletic, six foot six inch 245lb fighter with near perfect boxing technique could, just possibly, punch harder than a six foot one inch 210lb fighter whose best shot was a wind up right haymaker? One who's knocked several fighters out with just one shot?Comment

I think it's very hard to discern who really is the hardest puncher. There are way too many variables. It's like one of these childhood myths that matter can not be created out of nothing. For most people it's a good enough explanation, however when you are a bit more sophisticated then most people, things get much much trickier.Comment

True, when you get to the very top of the HW hitters tree it's almost impossible to separate anyone definitively else as being head and shoulders above the rest. Plus, like you said, there are way too many variables. Foreman is probably a heavier hitter than Tyson, but Tyson is more likely to knock an opponent out due to his speed and ultra-aggressive style. Likewise a prime Tua probably punches harder than any HW in history, yet his limitations as a boxer mean he doesn't get to demonstrate that power as consistently as someone like Wlad or Lewis. As for Shavers, well his punching power was way above average, but he gets horrendously overrated in my opinion.I think it's very hard to discern who really is the hardest puncher. Ernie Shavers, You can call me a black supremacist racist but Ernie Shavers has a case and could be argued he is the hardest hitting HW of all time.
Wlad is is not even in the top 5 in that regard.
However, Wlad is the greater fighter overall.Comment

I also remember seein wlad 1 punch KO Calvin Brock back in 2006 if I'm correct.
Jus a lil something 2 add to the wlad argument
Never seen any shavers fights so I don't have a say on him 68 ko's is only impressive on the competition
If not the case u can make an argument on Butterbean I believe he has over 70KOsComment

Why the heck would anyone call you a black supremacist? I certainly wouldn't. What I will do is ask you what in-ring film footage shows Shavers as hitting definitively harder than, say, Tua, Wlad or even Tyson. I'm not interested in fighter quotes, since anyone can say anything at the end of the day, and it doesn't make it true. What I'm interested in is seeing Shavers destroy someone the way Tua did Ruiz and Moorer, or knocking someone cold with one punch the way Wlad did Chambers. If you can show me that fight, then I'm more than willing to alter my opinion.Comment
