Ali was never hit by tyson, lewis, klitschko, morrison, bowe, tua, etc etc. Not necessairly stating that every single one of them punches harder than shavers, but maybe he'd have a different opinion if he was ever hit by them.Comment

Briggs said Vitali hit harder than Lewis and Foreman. Botha said some random K-1 fighter punched him harder than Tyson. Reality is that fighters talk a load of shit.Comment

Neither is Wlad's. Now back to my question: how many one punch (or let's be fair and say one-two punch) knockouts did Shavers have against mid/top level guys in his career? There's quite a bit of video footage available of the Acorn so the answer shouldn't be too hard to unearth.Comment

When has Shavers ever done this to an opponent?
Bear in mind that Chambers is about the same height and weight of many of Shavers opponents. He's also, to date, only ever been dropped and stopped by Wlad despite having fought Peter, Dimitrenko, Povetkin and Brock, all big heavy hitters. He was also not stunned or wobbled prior to the punch landing and was well on his way to dancing his way to a decision (loss).Last edited by nomadman; 10-24-2010, 04:09 AM.Comment

Yeah, it's a decent knockout, but nothing that screams out to me "HARDEST HITTER IN HEAVYWEIGHT HISTORY!!!" Why didn't he lay Ellis out flat on the canvas like Tua did to Wilson, or Wlad did to Chambers? Why was Ellis able to get up unassisted? I've seen tons of knockouts that looked just as, if not more, impressive than this one, only the fighters who achieved them weren't hyped to the hills like Shavers was.
If you care to actually look at the vast majority of Shavers' other KOs you'll see that they mainly came from stunning an opponent then following up with a barrage of head and body blows that eventually broke down the opponent and forced a referee or corner stoppage (usually after several knockdowns). His fearsome reputation seems to come have as a result of fighting in the 70s, having knocked down Holmes and (unofficially) Ali and having a bunch of jazzy sounding quotes about him that make for great reading but whose truth tends to be mitigated by the fact that most of the fighters who came up with thsoe quotes in the first place went on to win their fights with Shavers.Comment

shavers with out a doubt! the only reason someone wouldnt agree is because there isnt as much footage of him as there is of klitschko. if everyone of his fights was online like every klitschko fight is no one would disagree.Comment

But Wald is definitely the same class. Both hit harder than Tyson IMO.Comment
