Oscar De La Hoya vs Bernard Hopkins: Middleweight Title fight (w/ 158lb Catchweight)

Donny Lalonde vs Sugar Ray Leonard for Super Middle and Light Heavyweight title (Lalonde was not allowed to weigh over 168, yet his Light Heavy title was on the line)

Bottom Line: How has this effected any of these fighters' legacies?

If Margarito beats Manny, it won't look good for Manny. Many will say he tried to bite off more than he could chew and deserved to get beat.

Not that everyone's expecting him to lose.

        But you never know.

Yes because its picking and choosing your way through title and its bitch shit because who ever wants to fight at a catch weight for a title is basically saying they need help to win that title, wtf? does that sound right for any professional boxer to do? Every one is entitled to their own opinion but up until this day I dont approve of this shit. Each division is from a certain weight to a certain weight, you cant cut it off or else your no real champion. For example: A real welterweight champion is the champion from 141lbs-147lbs the proper weight division, not the champion from 141lbs-145lbs, which is basically what Pacquiao was because he cut off the last 2lbs. Fighting for no title at a catch weight sounds fine to me.

            No,

as long as it is agreed upon by both boxers, and their team and approved by World Boxing Body.

This was started even before this fight by the Floyd fans.

All Manny did was ask Cotto to come down 2lbs(1lb lower than Cotto's previous fight) and Floyd fans picked it up from there.

In all honesty, does anyone think that it would have made any difference in that fight?

Oh, and if you look it up, many of Floyd fans complained that Manny should have agreed on a catchweight with Eric Morales ..... maybe 132 instead of 130 ..... because Morales required to come down too much ... but that didn't make sense because it was for a title fight where the limit was 130!

will his catchweight fights, hurt his overall legacy when he retires from boxing.. or not
                  what is worse?
asking a boxer (cotto) to move down one pound less his normal official weigh-in weight...and asking another boxer (margarito) who's been basically a lifetime welterweight to no more than 151 for official jr middleweight weighins...then having these two boxers to come in basically at their normally fighting weight on fight nite...

                  OR

having a boxer (hatton) move up one full weight division to fight floyd jr...and another boxer (marquez) to move up two full weight division to fight floyd hr?

what pac has down with the catchweight against cotto and now margarito is nothing compared to what hatton and marquez had to go thru to fight floyd jr

We can all manipulate the facts to suit your own argument. Floyd fought Oscar at JMW without a catchweight.
