  • Mosley is a only a borderline great fighter to me.

I know I sound like I'm kicking when he's down, but he has just never been able to come through when it mattered. He deserves consideration for the HOF, but that's where it ends. I don't think he's overrated or underrated, but I wouldn't rank him over a lot of the other fellow great fighters that boxed during his era. I think Oscar beat him in the second fight and got robbed. He struggled with guys like Sergio Mora and Raul Marquez. And his resume reads like a who's who of fighters who were good but turned out to be gate keepers at some point.

he's one of the greatest 135 pounders of all time, imo.

I think the only times he came up short where against guys to big and a bad matchup for him (winky & vernon) and when he was older (cotto, floyd and now mora).

I was considering making this thread but refrained.

But I totally agree. I think a lot of people fool themselves when it comes to Mosley. He was never all that good imo. He struggled with a lot of pretty bad fighters and outside of dominating at LW through sheer speed, power and size, I've never been like "wow" about him.

He's a dumb fighter in the ring, usually reactive and unable to adapt and generally gets down on himself as the fight goes on since he's unable to figure out what to do.

At the risk of sounding harsh, I think he's a 1 dimensional 1 trick pony.

With speed and power and a good chin (in his prime).

But how can you just automatically come to the conclusion that he's one of the greatest fighters of all time at Lightweight? He never fought Stevie Johnston and the Lightweight division didn't have that many big names when he was dominating it. Same scenario when Floyd fought there. But Castillo is better than all the guys that Shane beat at 135.

He didn't really do all that much at LW though. He just looked great while he was there without really beating anyone of note.

I had him beating Cotto though.

Jab is pure garbage, can't believe he hasn't fixed it. He doesn't adapt and when he's far behind on the scorecard he resorts to looking for that one big shot. Neither can he cut off the ring. Of course, I wouldn't say he's SHOT, more like you need to put him in there against Kirkland, Angulo, a come foward opponent, there he'll look like a million bucks. In his prime none of that really mattered because he was such a speed demon.

Shane was never a great technical fighter, but what he did was hard to handle. Plus, to say he came up short when it mattered isn't true. He beat Oscar in one of the biggest fights of the 00's

so the oscar fights didn't matter? I'm not, nor have i ever been a fan of his (not for any particular reason) but you're typing out your ass.
