  • By the way, I've read the article about this fight being at 157, but I haven't read the article that says that Williams is the one who requested it. Anyone got a link? Because if not it'll be pretty amusing should it turn out that Martinez is the one who requested the catchweight

      Martinez is not.

There is a reason Cotto is a JMW now.
What is the reason now? Even when he lost to Pac right after Arum was looking to put Cotto in against Castillo at 147. So he was still willing to fight Cotto at 147 after the Pac fight. The only reason it didn't happen was cuz Cotto said he wanted to fight somebody better a top fighter.

Who is to say Martinez is not in a disadvantage when the last 2 fights he has weight over 2 pounds what the limit is going to be.

So if Martinez next fight is at 168. Are we going to say hey there is a reason why Martinez is a SMW now?

I honestly do not see the difference. Insult me and call me dense all you want. But, it is the same damn thing.

Pac-Marg is trash. That comparison should not even be made. But, the Pac-Cotto comparison is legit.

If it is cool for P-Will and Martinez to fight for a catch-weight(IMO is cool) then it should be cool for Pac-Cotto to fight at a catch-weight. If the winner of P-Will and Martinez get full credit(I will give the winner full credit) than Pac should had received full credit for beating Cotto.
The titles do matter IMO. Its Pac trying to cheat history imo. I heard even some of his diehards say that its cheating history. Thats my main beef with it. When you talk about breaking records and shyt like that then it its a problem for me.

So would their had been a difference if he won 2 catch-weight titles at LW and JWW but as long as he won the record breaking title at the limit?

I actually was calling Dirk dense

            but to your post...

I honestly dont think we'll ever see Cotto at 147 again. Castillo is finished. That fight would go 30 seconds. Arum knew that. Cotto is a full fledge 154 Pounder.

Cotto fought tooth and nail to have that fight at 147 Pounds. Why? Because he would not have to worry about weight. He could just train and come in at 146 or 147 and be done with it.

When Floyd mentioned Martinez, Sergio said anywhere between 154 and 160 is fine. Pauls last fight was at JMW. And after that he immediatley went down to prove he can make 147 pounds. Nothing turns up now he has to gain weight to fight Martinez again. The weight will have zero affect on Martinez.

Honestly if it wasnt for a 7th an 8th title I wouldnt be that upset about it. I wasnt upset about Diaz vs. Malinaggi at 138.

              I wasnt upset aboutPavlik-Hopkins at 170.

Neither of those fights had historic implications like Pac/Cotto and Pac/Marg.

having to eat 7000-9000 cals per day to make 145 pounds makes you a full WW? heck, he always rehydrated to 144-147 in his past fights, so in what way is he a WW?

                  Cotto was fighting Pac

                  Martinez is fighting Paul Williams.

                  Thats the difference.

So is fighting for the lineal middleweight title at a catchweight not cheating history as well?

What a horrible parellel. Malignaggi vs Diaz and Hopkins vs Pavlik were non-title bouts.

Fighting for the middleweight championship has no historic implications?

                      And Im dense...
