To me,Ortiz thought he had a quick night of Maidana!!But the minute Maidana got up & answered back with his own power,Ortiz looked for the quickest way out!!Quit like a chicken!!

Vasquez had a broken bone in his face!!It was gushing like a river,I see no similarities between the 2,other than they gave up!!Ortiz gave up while he was ahead when the going got a little tough,Vasquez quit because he had nothing left!!

like some have stated, Izzy's heart was already proven many times

also, there's a huge difference between not wanting to get into a shootout and quitting and not being able to breathe

        Here ya go

Vazquez is true warrior compare to Ortiz, the WARS we've seen Vazquez go through makes it okay for him to stop a fight if he can't breath.

Ortiz on the other, stopped because Maidana hit him hard, then he tried to use that blood as an excuse, fighting in front of his fans, and like someone else said, the post fight interview showed you his true colors.

Unfortunately for everyone else its going to be hard to deliver the type of punishment he received by choosing to brawl El Chino. If he boxes el Chino he doesnt receive the same amount of punishment and even if he brawls the rest of 140 none of the other top guys hit like Maidana.
The misconception here is that you have a choice.

Buffman Boxing Rule #101 states that against certain breeds of fighters, it doesn't matter how much of a cutie you are or how much theoretical skill you have.

Guys like Maidana, Packy, Margarito, etc... have the skill, heart, power and most importantly the intangibles to bring the bitch out of anyone.

For some fighters, the bitch already existed and just needed coaxing to be brought out. (Ortiz was clearly this case as he didn't realize he had any bitch in him until Marcos took him there)

For other fighers, they are fully aware of their inner bitch and only need a small scratching of the surface for them to reveal it to the world.

See Vivian Harris and fighters like him.

Oh God, I didn't know about that.

Kellerman is a de****able bastard to talk like that about Vasquez.

I'd love to have Max in the ring with me, and see how long it would take him to quit.

We may be talking about a different fight. The fight Im referring to was most definitely a shootout and the shootout was perpetrated by the fighter with the better boxing pedigree. Wanting to get into a shootout with a gunslinger like Maidana was the biggest mistake Ortiz made, not quitting.

I don't exactly think Ortiz quitting was a bad thing, he didn't hide behind excuses like accidently tripping out of the ring, he just didn't want to take any more. That being said, it's a choice he will have to live with, you want to make it to the top, sacrifises need to be made.

On the actual topic, Ortiz quitting was worse. Vasquez has proved his heart in the ring before, because of that you know his broken nose was seriously affecting him.

That was actually the thread that made me make this thread. I think Vazquez is a true warrior it just seems like he got the same treatment for quitting as Ortiz did.

Fighters get hurt all the time...its is part of the game to recover from getting hurt. Maidana was just as hurt when he was knocked down 3 times in the first 2 rounds and he defended himself just fine.

See what its like to do any athletic activity when you cant breath

whether Victor wanted to or not, a shootout was coming in that fight

Maidana isn't an old Nate Campbell that Victor could have used his feet en route to a points win

he had the power and the skill to enter that war, but not the heart to win it

Izzy on the other hand couldn't breathe...i've seen him cut, busted up, outgunned in other fights and that never made him stop
