I don't know what happened to Doug or exactly what his motivation for writing a piece like this is. I use to be a big Doug Fisher fan. But every since he left Maxboxing for Ring Magazine his thought process and some of his opinions has truly baffled me at times.
I assume by looking at him he is half black( i'm just guessing). But his reason or motivation does not matter to me, I think this piece he wrote was just plain dumb.
Everyone on this board that complains about a fighter being safety first or slick boxer are just plain ignorant. The object of the sport is to hit and not get hit period.
Ask yourself this! If your son wanted to be a professional boxer, What boxer would you want your son to learn from? What boxers tapes would you make him watch? Juan Diaz? How about Autro Gatti? or any other so called blood and guts warrior?
No way would you choose a fighter that took a bunch of punishment in his career. You all would sitting down with your son to watch Floyd Mayweather Jr. Tapes.
Go watch MMA or UFC if you want to watch people fight like amatuers and hit get in the face with punches a "C" level boxer could easily avoid without thinking.
Where are the Black Warriors?
ANSWER=IF YOU ARE ABLE TO CLIMB THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LADDER WITHOUT HAVING TO GET INVOLVED IN BOXING YOU WILL! IN SOME COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD BOXING IS STILL THE ONLY OR EASIEST WAY FOR MEN TO CLIMB THAT LADDER!
Black American's have more options available to them these days. Today young Black American's don't see boxing as a vehicle to escape ones dreadful economic conditions. It's easier to get to a College, Basketball Court, Football Field and a Recording Studio.
