Martinez was preparing for Williams long before the fight was announced.

Dirk. This argument is flawed based on the simple fact that Martinez is a world class athlete and also he was a World Champion at 154 as well. I'm very sure he trains just as hard for a "tune up" just as he does for another world class fighter. For a world class fighter with a title there are no l"lesser fights as his title is at stake and his dicipline is supreme, supreme enough to take every fight seriously.

Bottomline Reed is right ya'll the both were not properly prepared for a fight each other. And as for the poster talking about Paul "slapping"; remember those slaps put Martinez on the seat of his pants(they traded KDs).

Boxing Digest Magazine, Jan 2010 issue with Williams on the cover. DiBella was told by Haymon that they didn't believe Pavlik would commit and wanted to know if Martinez was able to take the fight in his stead. DiBella said they were preparing for Williams even before the ink was dry on the Pavlik-Williams bout.

I wasn't suggesting he was slacking in training but Im sure the intensity of a boxer's training is increased the bigger the fight. It can even be subconscious.

Hmm if you say so. Didnt they go after a fight with Clottey before Martinez was even considered?

Anyway...moot point. I think Martinez outboxes Williams any day of the week.
