Dazed, you forgot one thing. Roy was also one of the straight up greatest showmen in the history of the sport. Look up some of his highlights on youtube, you will laugh your ass off at the way he clowned his opponents.

No question Mayweather is the more orthodox boxer. Roy's style was one in a million. Damn near impossible to duplicate. And he was skillful. Like Floyd, he was basically born in the ring. So aside from his athletic ability, he was a boxer first and foremost. A student of the game who could look like a completely different fighter in each round of a twelve rounder. Beautiful left hook, excellent combinations, power in each fist, perhaps the fastest hands ever. A great body puncher. A master of defense - utilized his reflexes but parried as good as any fighter I've ever seen. Watch closely. An amazing fighter.

You know what's funny? I'm not sure if people were reading boxing mags and stuff back then (before NSB) but with that performance he shut everyone up. Took nearly a year off, came back and stopped Virgil Hill. Then began a six year reign at LHW. We literally got bored. Jones' unfortunate predicament was that he had to weight for either the middleweight stars to move up, or make his own leap to HW. There were no more big fights for him, save for perhaps Dariusz, around. When the Trinidad and Hopkins fights fell through, he really had no other option but to take the far riskier option. He accomplished what he wanted, but paid a heavy, heavy price.
