Floyd is a one of the best well trained fighters ever but Roy was gifted.

I think Roy edges Floyd because he had it all, Speed, Power, boxing skill, defense, stamina, and could even be unorthodox. Floyd is close but does not have the power like Roy or the "gift".

Jones could've been the greatest. With his skill set, unbelievable talent and intelligence, he had it ALL. In some ways it was as much a gift as it was a curse. Pretty lofty expectations and he didn't quite reach that. But what people forget is that his accomplishments are phenomenal. Right up there with a small group at the top.

I agree but I could be biased as well because he is my favorite fighter of all time.
If you wanted to train a fighter you could not and should not teach him what Roy had, but you can train him to be like Floyd.

No question Mayweather is the more orthodox boxer. Roy's style was one in a million. Damn near impossible to duplicate. And he was skillful. Like Floyd, he was basically born in the ring. So aside from his athletic ability, he was a boxer first and foremost. A student of the game who could look like a completely different fighter in each round of a twelve rounder. Beautiful left hook, excellent combinations, power in each fist, perhaps the fastest hands ever. A great body puncher. A master of defense - utilized his reflexes but parried as good as any fighter I've ever seen. Watch closely. An amazing fighter.

I hate to keep going but I forget that he was a great counterpuncher as well. Always two steps ahead and with enough power to leave you looking at the lights when he saw an opening. That 1-2 off Reggie Johnson's dome should be showcased at a museum. Reggie thought he had Roy lined up for his own combo--he did the ole' Neo in the Matrix maneuver when he got decked .

I am amazed that several people responded to this thread and totally missed the concept of a POUND FOR POUND comparison.

Dazed, you forgot one thing. Roy was also one of the straight up greatest showmen in the history of the sport. Look up some of his highlights on youtube, you will laugh your ass off at the way he clowned his opponents.
