We know Pacquiao is an offensive machine, but I really do think he's defense is underrated. He's shown an ability to slip punches when not engaging or when in a defensive position. Of course, he does get hit more often because he's an offensive fighter. But how do you rate his defense?
How Would You Rate Pacman's Defense? His "slickness"?

if PAC focused his quickness and footspeed on defense instead of offense, he would be hard to hit
but as is, he likes to engage...sometimes even dares his opponents to hit him...i give his overall defense a 7 -
Tough to rate because his defense is his offense. Clottey didn't throw a lot and connected at a much better percentage than Pac. Same with Marquez. I would rate just his defense is a 5 or 6 out of 10 but when you factor in the offense I would put it at 7-8 out of 10.We know Pacquiao is an offensive machine, but I really do think he's defense is underrated. It's about a 4, if he moved his head better and wasn't so off balanced all the time his defense would be better.Comment

I give him a 6 he is not completely open but he engages a lot often ending up in wierd positions, so as such he is there to be hit.
His offence also plays a large role in his defense because that is why he gets away **** because guys are always worried about him.
As an offensive fighter his defense is pretty good but in terms of just defense I don't think he brings much beyond just being adequet.Comment

His guard is high, but he leaves a big enough gap when at medium range for shots to get through. Once up close, he'll tighten up. At long range, it's all about that head movement and not much else...
It looks kinda random the way he sways left and right, whereas someone like Mayweather is watching for the punches to come to him before he makes a defensive move.
If we're talking out 10, I'll give Pacquiao 6 for defence. He doesn't give it the biggest regard when he's pressing the action, but he makes some effort when forced backwards. His constant off-balance foot positioning is something that can be exploited by good fighters, though (i.e. Marquez, prime Morales).Comment
