After taking bombs from Toney and Mesi, he gets KO'd by Moorer.. dont understand it. Since that fight hes been working his way up fighting bums to get another weak title shot. I agree with you.. time to move back down!
Moorer hits much harder than Toney, and even Mesi, thats how he became a 2 time HW champion.

Toney certainly won that fight but it was Jirov who made that fight!

I had a similar score, and I've watched the fight probably 10 times over. I had it 4-2 through 6, 6-4-1 going into the 12th, and 7-4-1 with the KD when all was said and done.

Both guys made the fight, otherwise it wouldn't have been so good.

Jirov put on insane amounts of pressure and mounted one of the most relentless assaults I've ever seen a fighter mount, but Toney was the one doing the best work in the fight.

Rounds where Jirov won are the rounds where he just outworked Toney and Toney would somewhat take the round off. Toney was constantly outlanding Jirov, and was clearly landing the harder, sharper punches. This was especially evident in the 6th and 12th rounds. Jirov did his best work in 7-10...

That fight was one of the best Ive seen. Steward was going crazy at the end, thinking that Toney needed that knockdown to win. I had Toney winning barely, but the scorecards made it seem like Jirov got handeled. He appears to have fallen off a bit. I didnt see the Mesi fight, but according to what Ive heard he made a furious comeback and should have won the fight.

It was a close fight in that there were close rounds, but Toney was winning the rounds, and that's the only thing that matters in boxing. I had it 8 rounds to 4, 116-111 with the knockdown. Toney by clear, hard fought decision

****, that is a good fight. So glad I have it on tape. Steward was going crazy when Toney knocked Jirov down! I love this fight. an alltime favorite and a definite classic.

              hmm

Lederman's scorecard was right on. Toney did just enough to win. Jirov made Toney look tired at times and beat his body good. Body shots seem to be ignored by some people on here, but that's fine. Great, close fight and I'm glad Toney won. I was rooting for him but was really sweating it even with the knockdown.

Are you kidding? I think the knockdown sealed it. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that Toney was taking the fight going into the 12th. Knockdown just increased the margin.

                  No doubt.

The problem is, Toney won many rounds that were close, but won them clearly.

In the end, because there were many close rounds, you can say it was a close fight.

But the score cards were a bit wider than the fight looked itself.

Just becasue the cards are in Toney's favor by a fair margin doesn't mean the fight wasn't close.

I had it the same as you, 116-111 including the KD.

I had it 7-4-1 (I've said that about a hundred times now) and agree that Toney was doing the more effective punching in the majority of those close rounds. If that's wrong then Jirov would have been the one putting Toney on his ass in the 12th, but that wasn't the case at all.

I can see many people get fooled by the way Toney fights. You might think he's getting hit alot, but he really isn't if you really pay attention, the guy is a master counter puncher. He clearly won that fight in my eyes. But Jirov was a monster, you have to respect jirov has a cruiserweight. He was pretty amazing. I liked Jirov & he was a great cruiserweight.
