Last week, a report ran on BoxingScene.com that Pavlik was seriously considering the possibility of remaining in the middleweight division. The Youngstown native had previously announced his desire to move up in weight to 168-pounds. After thinking it over, Pavlik came to a decision and informed Top Rank that he would hire a nutritionist and remain at 160-pounds. [Click Here To Read More]
Good move for Pavlik, he has a much better chance of winning his belt back at 160 than he does of winning a belt and keeping it long at 168. I do think the Chavez fight is a real must win for him, I can see him going to 168 and being competetive against the likes of Froch, Kessler, and AA, but either Andre or Bute would beat him badly.

Yes, he is slow and comes straight ahead but Pavlik can beat his share of top 10 super middleweights especially if he brings his power with him to the division. And they say the proof is in the pudding. Pavlik beats Taylor twice and Froch struggles with him until the last half minute and than Kessler does not look anywhere near a world beater when he wins against Froch. Abraham gets exposed as a very one dimensional fighter against Dirrell. And to date Pavik has fought the better fighters than Abraham has. Because in reality Abraham really has fought no one but Dirrell. So in my humble opinion other than Bute, Dirrell and Ward, Pavlik can beat any of other top ten on any given day. And if limited fighters such as Abraham and Andrade can hit and hurt two of the top three I give Pavlik a very good punchers chance to beat them as well. And by the way I did not even mention fighters such as WBO Champ Robert Stieglist or Jesse Brinkley. Because I would really like to know who thinks that Pavlik cannot beat the likes of those two?

If Pavlik loses, that's two in a row, and three major fights in a row. Is his future as a marketable fighter effectively over at that point?

Very surprised that Arum is making this fight. Something tells me that they (TRP) are done with Kelly and just getting out of him what they can.
        Or....

They are giving Pavlik a chance to redeem himself against a named fighter that will give him a big stage in which to do it.

I think this is a very good match up in the sense of money and you have one fighter who needs to stay on top and another who needs this to make his career lagit.

People thinking Pavlik is going to steam roll this kid are in for a shock. It's well known Pavlik can barely make 160 anymore. And I, for one, question whether or not his heart is still in it. Pavlik is going to be taking a lot of punches. How is he going to react when he starts getting tagged? Will he be looking to quit, like in the Martinez fight (in no way am I comparing JCC Jr to Sergio)? For me, there's just so many things I don't know about Pavlik right now.

I would slightly favor Pavlik, but I'd be scared to put money down on him. And if he opens as a huge favorite as I suspect he will, I might even make a small play on JCC Jr.

Wow, I never thought I'd say that.

i think this is a good fight, if pavlik wins his name is still in the mix and jcc jr. will still be okay (if its a good fight) because he is still young. if jcc jr. wins he will be on his way to becoming a superstar and pavlik could rematch him for another good payday.
above all else i think this will be a good fight though.Would be nice if we could get a Gatti/ward type fight, its been awhile.

It might not make a difference to you but I do believe that Chavez is Mexican.

I can't wait for this one I think Pavlik is gonna KO him but if Roach say Chavez Jr is ready for Pavlik then he must be ready Roach is smart and he wouldn't put Chavez in a fight he didn't think he could win

Since the fight is at 160lbs, who knows what'll happen. I hate when fighters keep fighting at a weight knowing they have a problem making it.
