He will have a legit opponent from the super 6 in 12 months. He's not going to risk coming in as the smaller man against a faster, bigger, stronger, better boxer while he's banking at 168 and waiting for a bigger megafight vs the winner of the Super 6 Boxing classic. Why can't you understand that?
Allan Green isn't a legit opponent. Let's get that straight. And he is the guy Bute will likely end up fighting.
I don't see The Super 6 winner facing Bute anyway. Do you honestly?
Look, Andre Ward is likely going to win this thing and secure a Top 5 or 6 p4p ranking in the process.
If Andre Ward wins the Super 6 (5 consecutive wins over the best in the division) do you honestly believe he is gonna bend over backwards for Lucian Bute and travel to Montreal?
Do you honestly believe he should?
When Ward wins the Super 6, it is Bute who will need to come to Oakland to make the fight happen, and it shouldn't be any other way.
If Bute doesn't want to come to Oakland I guarantee you that Ward, unlike Bute, has the balls to move up to 175 and fight Dawson.Comment

Gate money doesn't mean **** in the grand scheme. It's nice to have a full house and it creates an ideal atmosphere but it's not how the fighter's get most of their money.
If you look back at the largest grossing fights of all time, the ones that generated millions upon millions of dollars, there are quite a few where the paid attendance was under 15,000.
If fighters got rich off the live gate because it was so much money then a band like U2 would only have to do a 1 concert tour every year because they could draw 60K and charge more money than a Bute ticket.
I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that May/Mosley generated a higher gate revenue than Pac/Clottey...that's like 50,000 people versus 17, 000 people.
Now, to my knowledge, the richest gate is in the area of 9 mill, and that's only for ppv fights.
It's probably less than half that for fights that aren't PPV worthy. And then that money has to get split in a ton of different ways.
The fighters really don't get much off of gate revenue. PPV fighters get more off of PPV revenue than they do gate revenue.Comment

I'm talking about Ward or Froch. If Froch loses he willhave to fight Dawson or Bute over here if he wants to stay in the world boxing limelight. Who do you think he'd fight? Same goes for Dirrell.
I think Ward will fight Bute in either Oakland or a neutral site. I don't think Bute is as big a pu$$y as you do, and I know he can knock a mo***a out, unlike Chad.Comment

An example of how misleading that attendance numbers can be...

Ok, so they get nothing from the gate. right...ok. They get nothing substantial from $16000 paying customers. Plus Showtime Championship boxing license fees.
Ya'll are being ridiculous.Comment

I agree, except his riskiest fight will be the best loser of the tourney. Showtimne does not have options on the losers of the tourney.
Why would Dirrell move up to fight Chad when Bute is there for him? He can reclaim top 2 168 status if he loses to Ward (which isn't going to happen) and goes to fight Bute.
1: Bute wont risk it. Of course he would fight Green but if he has 2 losses in the s6 HBO will not buy it.
2: HBO will not make such a match simply because it will mean free PR for Showtimes supersix and showcasing one of those eliminated would prove that the best fighters are on the rival network.Comment

HBO World Championship boxing budget starts at around 2 million.
That's a huge difference.
To the fighters, guaranteed network money is more valuable than gate revenue. So having an automatic WCB date attached to your name is a big deal.
And HBO WCB boxing money + Belle Centre Revenue is big money.
That's all I'm saying.Comment

All I am saying is that despite the attendance figures I would feel very safe saying that Dawson made more money against Johnson and Tarver than Bute ever did against any of his scrub opponents in Montreal.
So it makes me wonder how a person can in good conscience say that Dawson doesn't bring enough money to the table for Bute when Dawson has been making more money than Bute all along.Comment

As much as I'd like to see Bute square off against one of the elimateés from the supersix I'm pretty sure that wont happen:
1: Bute wont risk it. Of course he would fight Green but if he has 2 losses in the s6 HBO will not buy it.
2: HBO will not make such a match simply because it will mean free PR for Showtimes supersix and showcasing one of those eliminated would prove that the best fighters are on the rival network.
Why does it have to be on HBO?
HBO announcers are CLAMORING for Bute V winner of SUper 6, why not make it a setup fight?Comment
