Comments Thread For: Dawson vs Bute is The Plan; Perez-Agbeko Part 2 Ordered

Promoter Gary Shaw advised BoxingScene.com that he would like match IBO light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson against Lucian Bute, the IBF champion at 168-pounds, and giving Bute the homefield advantage of the Bell Centre in Montreal is not a problem.

While Perez is being forced to do rematches. How about we get him back in there with Mares.

Dawson vs Bute is a good scrap. Ill be there if it comes off.

I was hoping to see Dawson and Cloud unify if both win their next fights, but Bute is a good option too. Plus if Dawson clears the division too quickly, he won't have any opponents left.

Dawson might just be done with 175 after Pascal. He'd win the Ring Title in that fight. Might as well go to 168 and wax Bute.

I agree with this. 175 is just about bone dead dry. Win the Ring Title and go for Bute.

Hell will freeze over before Bute fights Dawson at anything other than 168, and in Montreal to boot.

This article says nothing about Team Bute wanting the fight and they almost certainly will not step to a catch weight against Chad Dawson when it means getting his ass handed to him.

Shaw says "at a catchweight" he doesn't say anything about fighting at 168. HBO may want the fight, and the fans may want the fight, but Lucian Bute won't get caught dead making the mistake of fighting Chad Dawson when he has the prospect of fighting the winner of the Super 6 (a much lesser opponent) for just as much if not more money.

Andre Ward isn't that far behind in Chad Dawson imo. Dawson just has more experience at this point. I'd say Ward is a much harder fighter to hit clean though. I think Ward will turn into the better fight at some point.

edit: Speaking of Super Six, Showtime still needs to make a Bantam version. They don't make much, so it'd be easy to pay for it.

Yeah I can see why. 175 is pretty dead. But if Cloud KOs Johnson, he should probably unify with him before moving down or else everyone will try to call him a duck. And I doubt HBO would decline the fight again if Cloud KO'ed Johnson, so it would be demanded. The only issue I have with the Bute fight is whether Dawson can get down to 168 healthy. I mean he looks like he's at the Cruiserweight limit on fight night...He was even bigger than Adamek during their fight. They should meet at a non title catch weight.

I'm all for Agbeko-Perez 2. I thought King Kong pulled that out last time, and I'd love to see that action packed fight again. Agbeko deserves a rematch before Mares.

As for Dawson-Bute, I think Pascal will have something to say about that. Pascal-Bute would cause riots in Canada.
