Why was a Dawson win changed to a NC because of Marijuana?

its ****** as its not going to improve his physical ability one bit. But that said its a banned substance and when you get into a stituation where you allow some banned substances to be looked over it looks bad on the sport. Also it will start a lot of hassle, if weed is ok why cant some acid be etc.
Finally props to chad toke it up. Just not before a fight.Comment

just because its not a performance enhancer doesnt mean it should be overlooked in drug tests. Its banned.
Its an illegal substance almost everywhere, and pro athletes have to live up to that whole role model **** for kids. Kids dont do drugs etc. Thats why its banned. Although why the media, governments and sporting organisations want kids to look to sports stars as role models i have no idea. But thats another argument for another thread.Comment

I noticed when boxrec rangering + some addition research that Dawson has a NC in a fight he won because he tested positive for pot and I could see him being fined but its not a performance enhancer in anyway at all.
So why would the win be discredited for that?
Who cares if fighters are toking up, if anything it hurts their chances of winning and its not like it puts their opponent at a disadvantage so there to me seems to be nothing in that win that is tainted.
Lol, no kidding. Definitely not a leg up.Comment

He was 21 years old when that happened. That fight was early 2004 we're in 2010 now that was 6 years ago. "Saying Dawson is a dumbass" is pretty unfair, he was a dumbass is more accurate. He's obviously more dedicated and hasn't tested positive for any banned substance ever since.Comment

I mean it definitely wasn't smart of him to do and if he wasn't as good as he is it could have cost him the fight but my issue with the NC is that a NC is basically saying the win is discredited because its tainted somehow.
I don't know about you guys but if there is a close fight and someone gets a close decision and the winner of that fight tests positive for mary jane, it doesn't make me question the win and wonder if he would have lost without it.
So that is why I could see fining him or the suspension but that win to me seems legit and I personally am going to credit him or any fighter for a win when they have tested positive for marijuana.Comment

its not about it being performance enhancing and helping a fighter win a fight its about it being illegal (as in goverment illegal)I mean it definitely wasn't smart of him to do and if he wasn't as good as he is it could have cost him the fight but my issue with the NC is that a NC is basically saying the win is discredited because its tainted somehow.

I get that, though its a separate issue for another debate but I don't see what that would have to do with boxing and whether a win is good or not.
Like I said fine him or something but smoking pot and winning boxing matches are totally unrelated to each other.Comment

i agree about it hindering not helping, buts its not just boxing, its all sports that i know of. All recreational drugs are banned. In football or rugby u get a 2 year ban ffs! A NC is pretty lenient as it is. Its so they set a good example to youngsters who look up to them (which as i said earlier is ******). It is the way it is.Comment
