Comments Thread For: 'New' Miguel Cotto: Veteran Trainers Saw No Changes

Nice job taking the comments out of context Vester. What all the trainers are saying in different ways is the following:
They saw no STARK differences in the "new" Cotto. They all agreed that Steward had a good plan of attack in place and that Cotto basically "returned to his roots" using elements that he had perhaps put less emphasis on because other things "such as power punching" worked so well at times. They all said his jab was much more effective and that Steward was a positive influence because Cotto looked more focused and it really seemed like Cotto "let Steward instruct him"
Terrible job of trying to change the meaning of what the PRican boxing trainers actually said.Comment

Steward said through the buildup to the fight that he wasn't changing anything; he just wanted to tweak some of his recent deficiencies. We saw better footwork, a crisper jab and that left hook to the body being used again. "New" Cotto is a myth. He just stopped being so freakin' stubborn to think he could do it all by himself.
And let's get real, the choice of using Santiago was because Cotto thought he could go it alone.Comment

He is the same fighter, Stewart is not going to change him but improve what is there. About the best thing that happened was that they had a plan and Stewart re-enforced Cotto when he went to the corner and gave him the right instructions.
Also subtle positive defference in his foot work, his balance and movement was very fluidComment

You do have a point when it comes to trainers. I do think it's tough to say Cotto is a "new" fighter. It's tough to teach a veteran like Cotto new things at this stage in his career. I will say that I thought he moved better in the ring and seemed to match Yuri's foot speed step for step.I've found trainers to be the biggest *******s in boxing. They rarely want to give another trainer props for his work, and they seem to be on a full-time mission to prove that their training methods and boxing knowledge is superior to everyone elses. Cotto's improvement was clear to me, and it will become more pronounced over time.
As long as he has a veteran trainer like Manny Stewart he will be ok. He can trust Manny will give him all the right advice and follow what he says.Comment

Yeah I read the article in Primera Hora and this is a little out of context. This article made it seem like they were dissing Cotto and Steward. I didn't get that from the article on Primera Hora. Trinidad Sr was kinda hating though. Lol.Nice job taking the comments out of context Vester. What all the trainers are saying in different ways is the following:
