I don't agree that Valero and Kirkland are/were similar in skill level. If you saw Valero against DeMarco, you'll have noticed his regard for defense surfaced when he stepped up. If you don't think he shows defensive nuances/skills in that fight, you're crazy. It was more the level of competition he was showing little regard for prior to that, generally speaking.

Pissed-off facial expressions when sat in the stands imply spiritual kinship now?

Valero appears to have had a manic-depressive personality, as opposed to just plain surly.

Strikes me as a kind of 'wacky' dude here,

but no doubt he was a terror, too, which is what I mean by manic-depressive. And everything we're hearing in the wake of his passing bears that description out.

But, yes - I noticed these things before he passed.

Yes, Edwin and Kirkland are/were both 'intense'. But there are nuances of intensity.

And Valero's is a quite singular nuance, I should add.

Why'd he have to go and die and give us the eternal 'would he/wouldn't he have been great' debate?

Valero had a definite X Factor, a compelling sense of destiny about him. Turned out his destiny was a live fast/die young Rockstar story. I'd have preferred to see much more of him in a boxing ring, but, oh well.

we will just have to agree to disagree on the similarity or non similarity of edwin valero & james kirkland's level of feral tenacity to inflict pain on another man.

that is what precisely nsb is for. ive been nuthugging valero before i joined nsb & before only me & jreck were the only ones i remember repping valero, i immediately noticed the "IT" factor in him. Trust me, before kirkland went to jail he had "IT" as well. Even more so than valero.

I just hope he didnt go ****** mujehadin on us & he continues boxing & keeps his head on straight.
