Here is why Hopkins is the man. We all know the typical arguments (who he defeated, title defenses etc,.).

He moved up in weight like the old-timers. Straight up from Middleweight to Light-Heavyweight - against the Legitimate Light-Heavy Champ at that time.

That's 15 pounds.....no 168, which is a bastard weight class that just got created 25 years ago.

Out of the 7, only 2 of them could make it competitive and there are more than 10 ringside observers that scored the fight Talor I and the Calzaghe fight a draw or in his favor.

Trinidad was the Ring, lineal champion at 147 and 154, and took a 160 lb. title from Joppy before fighting against B-Hop. Not only that, but every time he touched Joppy's chin he would hurt or stun him before knocking him out ; something that nobody, not even Hopkins has been able to do.

He drained himself to weigh in at 156 against De La Hoya who was a Unified Champion at 154.

Calzaghe spent 15 years at 168 and was coming off the best win of his career. If he can't move up and be thought of as legit... Who does?

Pavlik is 6'2 and has had trouble making 160 ever since I can remember. The next division up is 168 and Hopkins drained himself 5 pounds to meet him at 170.

Last, but not least... He jumped 2 divisions, going up 15 pounds after 2 losses to fight Tarver. And he was the betting underdog in 4 of the 8 fights .

Record middleweight defences says it all, his era was as good as Monzons or Haglers.

He Koed DLH at 156 which is pretty impressive. Beat Tarver who was the man at LHW.

Give me a list of BHop's 5 best wins at MW.

i dont understand how people who claim to love and respect technical boxing can truly rate Bernard Hopkins!!! the guy is seriously not a great practitioner of the sweet science. doesnt use the jab (the left that he just pokes out there with no intention of landing was not a jab), very rarely puts 2 punches together, punch-hold is not great boxing. posturing and posing is not great boxing.
De La Hoya was a far better technical boxer and thats the truth!

Which is why you need to appreciate Taylor's win even more.
Translation for the not so sharp / experienced readers :
the older man benefits more from PEDs.

That's like in today's world if Gamboa fought a 20 fight professional with no noteworthy amateur background. Or Andre Ward - another Gold Medalist, fighting some 20 fight up and comer who's still learning on the job because of no Amaateur experience.

the second time & third time, he got beat by jermaine taylor. whose not even great.
Both of which are disputable - and who suffered more from those fights? Taylor barely lost a round in any of his fights prior to facing Hopkins. He was dominating guys with his jab on ESPN but B-Hop exposed his flaws and he was shaky after that.

the 4th time, he got beat by joe calzaghe.
Hopkins won that fight. Knocked him down, landed the clean punches, while Calzaghe kept the slap workrate on him. He can thank the good judges for saving hm.

anybody who loses to jermaine taylor twice CANT BE A ATG.

hall of famer no doubt. but no atg.
Barrera lost to Junior Jones twice. Does that exclude all his other accomplishments (beating Hamed, winning the Triology vs Morales, Multi-weight champ). You're an idiot.

Here is why Hopkins is a fouling hype job. We all know the typical arguments (who he "defeated", title defenses etc,.).

He moved down from 175 to 160 , after losing his debut at 175 to a nobody.
After a lackluster MW career (baring the Tito fight , another exposed cheater) Straight up from Middleweight to Light-Heavyweight - against the Legitimate Light-Heavy Champ at that time which had to drain himself from weighing a 220 for the Rocky Balboa film to the 175 LHW limit.

That's 15 pounds.....no 168, which is a bastard weight class that just got created 25 years ago. And Tarver had to somehow lose 45 pounds .... !!!!! .......

                    Calzaghe taxed that ass.

Nice Ad Hominem attack. Still doesn't change the TS's poorly written argument against Hopkins. Hey I find Calzaghe's fighting style to be annoying. He fights like a ***** fighting his way out of spiderwebs, but I still acknowledge that he is the all-time 168 pounder.

BTW I change my avatar frequently, a week ago I had Comedian George Carlin's picture on there. I just found a nice B-Hop/RJJ staredown picture and decided to wear it, nothing to it mutant.
