An interesting point-to me anyway- about the Resto embroglio is that ALL the experts say that bandages and gloves are mainly there to protect the fists of the boxers, and we do know that this is to a large extent true, since a bareknuckle boxer today would be smashing his hands up every time he fought. Many do, even with bandages and gloves.

Yet, Resdto was able to cause career (and life) ending injuries both physical and mental, without, as far as I have ever heard, damaging HIS hands at all. At least it's never been brought up or discussed before, that I know of.

In the old, bareknuckle days, the way boxers protected their hands (and faces) was to constantly steep (pickle) their hands in brine.

Before the Marquis of Queensbury rules, fights were 100 plus rounds, and were like reading mythical tales.

John Stack stops opponent in the 152nd round.

Some of the bareknuckle **** is crazy as ****, but it's really hard sometimes to distinguish the myths and the folktales from the actual reality because without tv, writers tended to embellish things.

Ortiz got in the ring with a man he didnt know was clean, and chose to fight the wrong fight and paid for it. Floyd refuses to step in the ring unless stricter drug testing is implemented. How is Ortiz more cowardly for stepping into the ring than Floyd not getting in the ring? Do you have any examples of a fighter being maimed because his opponent was on steroids?

Mayweather has fought through painful injuries in several fights. There is nothing he has done to even suggest he has quitting in him. Wanting everything to be even going into a fight is not related to quitting. I don't see the correlation at all.

Id like to see my favorite guys not die. They're wearing gloves and fight 3 minute rounds for a reason.

Yea, Im far from politically correct. It was taken that I wish harm on fighters which isnt true, but we are all guilty of putting our own entertainment ahead of our concern for these fighters well being. If it were the other way around we'd watch golf.

I never said I saw any quit in him. Hes a great fighter, undoubtedly. The point wasnt to make Floyd look like a coward the point is that you cant think Ortiz is a coward for wanting to protect himself from taking punishment and respect Floyd for wanting to protect himself from cheating. I dont think professional fighters are cowards, but I cant respect a man who isnt getting in the ring more than a man who got in there and got beat up.

on that same note shouldn't any fighter do whatever he can to prevent cheating against him?

it's not your life or mine but it is his so obviously he cares about brain damage etc etc.

You know what we do Mack.

We sit there craving the knockout, then when it comes, we're like oh **** I hope he isn't hurt too bad.

Just seems weird, but I think a lot of us do it.

It's like I wanna see him ko'ed and unconscious, but I'd like him to wake up in 12 seconds.

Yea I get tense when fighters are knocked completely unconscious. Ricky Hatton had me nervous against Pac, he looked dead. Its always a plus when a fight ends in a KO, but nobody wants to see a fighter laying there shaking.

Anyone who pretends they don't have any lust for blood and destruction is either a *****, or a total self serving liar.

We don't watch boxing for artistry. We watch it for violence.

If you want artistry, go watch figure skating.
