    Floyd's "Retirement": In retrospect...Effin' Brilliant!!

When Floyd "retired", his best (financial) prospect was for a rematch with Oscar Delahoya. A fight that even my economics-obsessed ass didn't care to see.

Floyd would then be expected to (try to) run the gauntlet of Cotto, Mosley, Williams, Margarito, Cintron, Berto, etc.. Whew! Who can do that?

So, Floyd "retires". Then comes back and fights a lightweight and makes $30 million. While he was out, the welterweight division worked itself out, and the top two guys who emerged? Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao. The two guys that he'd get the most "legacy bump" from beating.

Mayweather just crushed Mosley (for another $30 million) and has a giga-fight with Pacquiao on the horizon.

Mayweather's rep as a "ducker" or "runner" is gone (among reasonable boxing fans), in the wake of his dominating performance against Shane. He has reclaimed the #1 WW spot, and reclaimed the #1 pound-for-pound crown on most/many lists.

HOW SWEET DID EVERYTHING WORK OUT FOR THIS DUDE?

the whole point was to let his body rest/heal and wait for the next big thing to come up. floyd, roger and SR knows the ins and outs of the sport and all te fighters.

as floyd said "they are trying to build a fighter to beat me" and they knew they were building pac up

shane wasnt in that plan im sure b.c floyd was wanting to freeze him out like he did floyd back in the day. but as i said when shane steped in that ring after the JMM fight, he ****ed up when he did that and went on floyds **** list

this was all planned. shows how smart he is

His hands have healed up as well. He hasn't complained about it at all since he has been back.

When Floyd came back I remember reading an interview where Shane said Floyd told him the fight would happen but he wanted a tune up or two first. He only got one tuneup and then the fight.

Brilliant for his wallet. But, I don't care about that. And, no real boxing fan should either unless you getting a piece of the pie.

But, as a boxing and any true boxing should not be all excited that he retired and not fight Cotto, Margarito, Williams, and a younger more active version of Shane. Still a great version of Shane but a younger more version.

                Exactly!!

Floyd would have paid Margarito....only to get hit with loaded gloves.

                How crazy does that sound?

Ten years from now (assuming G-D beats Pac) , will ANYBODY say "oh , he never fought Cotto"? I really doubt it.

Floyd basically did what SRL did. Fought the 3 to 5 guys that defined a whole career.

In SRL's case, he fought Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler. Does anybody really care about Kalule?
