If you watched all the old time greats with no knowledge of them and no volume on the TV they would not become larger than life as time rolls on which is what happens , I dont think its a case of they are overrated as much as its more a case of the modern day greats get downplayed and taken for granted .

Across the board todays fighters are in better shape have been taught better skills , greats are greats in any era , all being equal there is not all that much between them as boxers , but across the whole field todays fighters are better in every way .

Why you say that Ch@mp? Because, he was a great pitcher against white players only? Because, he was a great hitter against white pitchers only?

We know fighters back then could hold up today because they actually fought under tougher circumstances. Take Floyd for instance. Im not knocking him here, but how would his hands hold up with smaller gloves having to fight more often and with less medical improvements compared to today? We have no idea, but I would venture a guess that he wouldn't be holding up like today and those injuries could be the reasons for losses.

back then you could prolly load your gloves with impunity.....lol.......

it's not that today's fighters can't fight hundreds of fights...it's just that they don't.......i mean back then if a guy had 200 fights...and a good win ratio....it's more than likely 150 of those guys were bums.......

some guys fough 5 and 6 times a month..........

Fighters are not in better shape today, and many skills have been lost over the years such as feinting a fighter out of position and parrying punches. Heavyweights shouldn't even be called fighters compared to the greats of the past. Most are fat, slow, no endurance, hardly throw punches and rely on their size instead of actual skill. THAT IS A FACT.

Sorry, Jesse Owens was NOT faster than Usain Bolt. But, Owens, given the same training conditions, equipment and tracks, might be superior.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe fighter back then fought more often to stay sharp and get paid. So many of the bums they fought were like paid sparring sessions. That doesn't change the fact that at the top level there was more competition and less weight classes and titles though. So in my opinion there championship fights were more meaningful than say a title fight today. That is no fault of todays fighter given their circumstances with all the weight classes and ABC orgs, but it has to be taken into consideration, no?

this statement alone is probably why i have very little regard for the *****s intelligence.

Basketball out of all sports along have evolved physically & technically the most.

Come on Brah, lets keep it civil. This has been a good back and forth discussion with valid points being made all around.

I've seen pictures of Owens, actually newsreels, in which he was wearing ****es. Sneakers may have been his very youthful wear, but as soon as he attracted the notice of Athletic Associations, I'm certain that ****es would have been provided for him.
