  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather Says Mosley's Lack of a Jab is a Big Problem

The uncle and trainer for Floyd Mayweather Jr, Roger Mayweather, says WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley will need a good jab if wants to have any shot in the May 1 mega-fight. Without the jab, Roger has no idea how Mosley will prevent his nephew from staying on the move. Mosley's biggest critics as the fight draws closer have been the Mayweathers. Both Roger and Floyd have focused on Mosley's lack of a good jab. [Click Here To Read More]

This is true. I think everyone knows the biggest key to beating Floyd is a great jab to throw off his timing and speed. Mosley has a lazing pit pat jab to set up and telegraphed right hand. Not good for Shane

I have this feeling that the more aggressive Shane is, and the more he makes Floyd fight, is actually going to work against him. Making Floyd have to fight might not be a great idea. Shane might end up getting beat up if he makes Floyd throw back.

articles and interviews such as this make me think of dis-info, or really trying to lead mosley into fighting a certain way, a more predictable way. i'm sure mosley and richardson have a dozen plans lined up.

and when i say dis-info, i mean more along the lines of having mosley and his team look at the fight in only one perspective and not as a whole......

either way, it's approaching soon and soon we shall see whats up.

This "no jab" thing is so overblown. And false. Shane Mosley beat Oscar De La Hoya the first time with his jab. Just because he doesn't use it in a conventional manner doesn't mean he doesn't throw one. Yes, he fires four or five pawing jabs in a row but he always mixes a stiff, hard one somewhere in between. And that can really throw an opponent off. Then trying to figure out when he's throwing the right behind it; or maybe feints the jab and fires that quick lead left hook. Man, Shane Mosley is not a game in the ring.

i think naazim knows this. i dont think he'll develop a good one at this stage, but it'll be better. jabs and feints are stabilizers and are needed to get floyd to react.
i think the plan should be: jabs, feints, focus on the body and just landing anywhere, speed in combos up top, rough-house, borderline dirty tactics on the inside.
dont go for the ko or even land hard, flush shots to the head, just beat up the body, arms, hips, etc.

he beat oscar because Oscar took the fight to him, the rematch was a whole different story.
Mayweather will be looking to do the same thing, except it will be much easier this time around

Well yeah...in the rematch Oscar pitty-patted and moved. I don't see Floyd doing that.

if u jab with floyd he stops jabbing himself. jabs and setting traps is the key. floyd is quite predictable himself.
