Merchant has had his moments but longevity is not what makes you great. Just because he is the person I grew up hearing on HBO broadcasts doesn't mean I have to like it. I didn't say that because you or anybody else stated anything even close to me having to like Merchant. I used to like **** Vitale now I can't stand him and I used to hate Bill Walton now I miss him and wish he could get back on the air.
You don't have to like him dude but best believe he's going right to the HOF first ballot with great fighters. The dude is a legend man he has been at his post for years and has not been replaced. You tryin to say Larry is not a legend is like me saying Floyd is not a Legend. They both held a top spot for years and are highly regarded in this sport.Bro he is and always will be a legend and when he is gone I for one will miss him.

Also, when Friday night fights go the Blue Horizon capacity is 500 so yeah it looks packed. We had about half of the 19452 seats filled that night on a marginal card. Merchant is incompetent at this stage of his career and sounds like **** Clark. He was/is a legend of boxing but its time step down.

      FYI: Manuel Steward is CLASS…
It's called humor. I found it kinda amusing and still love me some Larry Merchant. He has forgotten more about boxing than anyone on this website ever knew. HBO would be lost without him.

I like Larry Merchant and his commentary and I don't think he deserves a lot of the flack he catches here, but he's often too eager to point out the worst of the sport.
What's counter productive is fight with no fire in your belly.I give Berto credit for beating Quintana but let's keep it real here.Quintana is not rank anywere not in the WW and in the Jr MW.So he beat a guy not rank!!!!And did not look great doing it.I know he hurt his arm but his form was just not good.Shane Clottey May Pac even Collazo would have beat him on that night.I think Merchant get's mad and point's out certain things when they need be pointed out.Oh and if Berto want to draw more fans he has to fight with fire from his belly to inspire not look to Larry to lie for him.

The problem was that in a lot of rounds there wasnt enough significant action to occupy the commentary, so they start talking about other things when the fight gets dull.

Irrelevant, yes, but I'd rather have that though then to have someone like Bob Sheridan calling every fight (no matter how terrible the fight is) as if it were Ali-Frazier.

I think he turns viewers away from boxing at this stage. I say get rid of him now. Before I didn't feel that way. But now I do. I don't even hate Larry Merchant because some of the ways he presents the boxing program is spot on. But his negativity would cause casual viewers to maybe turn the channel.

When the size of crowd is that small it makes room for a pretty funny oberservation. Anyone offended by its got to lighten a little. This isn't a UFC match where everything is so overhyped and protected. HBO isn't tied down to fighters and can say whatever they want about thier fights, especially if their true.
