eXACTLY.
People acting like Floyd sold the PPV himself.
JMM drinking piss helped get some hype, heck look at everyone on the forum.
Then it was on mexican independence day, clever move. Floyd indeed had a rib injury.
How many mexicans live in the US? How many Americans live in the US compared to filipinos and Ghanians?
ANYONE GET ME THE TOP 100 PPV NUMBERS ETC PLZComment

LOL man, some of you Floyd fans give him a bad name.
Clottey had never been on PPV, JMM is one of if not THE top Mexican fighter in the last 5 years. Regardless if he sold 200-300K on PPV prior, he's still a top name in the "sport" (not just a name in the division like Clottey is).
And I do recall that the last time Floyd fought a nobody on PPV he only racked in just over 320K buys (which was the lowest of his previous 3 PPVs).
You guys prove more everyday that you're fans of one fighter and not the sport itself. Pacquiao alone doing 700K should tell you people are starting gain more interest in Boxing again, yet you guys bash it...SMHLast edited by Ravishing; 03-24-2010, 09:36 AM.Comment

Cotto had a huge fan base (Mostly Ricans) when he fought Clottey
Margarito had a big fan base (Mostly Mexicans) when he fought Clottey
Judah had a good fan base (Mostly Black Americans) when he fought Clottey
Corrales had a decent fan base (Mostly Chicanos an Americans) when he fought Clottey
Lets not pretend Clottey is totally unknown, he has had some exposure from previous fights. Yes he hasn't been in any other PPV, but he has been with some names and he has some names on his resume, you guys dont understand its not easy to be a PPV Fighter and not everyone can be one a PPV Fighter, hell the Klitschkos werent even getting any PPV deals from broadcasting companies so the Klitschko fight had to be on PPV stream.
Out of thousands of boxers in different weight classes can you name more than 15 how many fighters are PPV fighters and have a large following?
Marquez has had only 1 PPV in which he was in the A side WITH a dance partner in Joel Casamayor (A name) and they still did 100K buys. Bottom line people will pay to see you fight depending on WHO (The other guy should be popular) you are fighting unless your name is Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao. Most of you guys calling Marquez a draw now were ****ting on the Mayweather-Marquez fight saying Floyd is fighting a "blown up lightweight, he weighed in at 146 lbs omg im not buying this joke of a tune-up fight, Lolzz its competing with a UFC event too, this fight will do around 300-400k buys" and when it did over a million buys you guys changed your tune. You know who you are...I dont need to mention any names.Last edited by Parody; 03-24-2010, 10:12 AM.Comment

Hey 'The Break Down" who gives a **** about the ppv numbers! Do you work for HBO? Do you work for Mayweather Promotions? So why mention the numbers? Obviously you dont know boxing or who is who. I think more people are aware of JMM than Clottey. Stick to boxing topics not these so callled PPV numbers. True boxing fans dont care about the "numbers"!Comment

Correction: He sold 100K against another known name/cuban Hall of famer in Joel Casamayor.
Mayweather-Baldomir did 325K buys BEFORE Mayweather fought Oscar and was a mega star. Before Pacquiao fought Oscar his PPV numbers with a legendary fighter like Erik Morales were comparable to Mayweather-Baldomir and some did less than Mayweather-Judah.
Here are some numbers of Mayweather and Pacquiao Pay per views before they fought Oscar and before they were mega stars:
Pacquiao vs Morales 1 = 350K buys
Pacquiao vs Morales 2 = 360K buys
Pacquiao vs Morales 3 = 350K buys
Mayweather vs Baldomir = 325K buys
Mayweather vs Judah = 375K buys
Mayweather vs Gatti = 365K buys
Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s victory over Juan Manuel Marquez last weekend has generated 1 million pay-per-view buys, an impressively high number that confirms Mayweather's once-debatable superstar status.
When and AFTER they fought Oscar these where the numbers:
Mayweather vs Oscar = 2.4 million (PPV Record)
Mayweather vs Hatton = 900K Buys
Mayweather vs Marquez = 1 million Buys
Mayweather vs Mosley = ?
Pacquiao vs Oscar = 1.25 m
Pacquiao vs Hatton = 825K buys
Pacquiao vs Clottey = 700k buys
Pacquiao vs Cotto = 1.2 million buys
Note: Cotto is a much bigger draw than JMM(Had successful PPVs in the past), has a much bigger following, that fight can be compared to Pacquiao vs Clottey more than Pacquiao vs Cotto. Pacquiao vs Cotto can be compared to Mayweather vs Mosley next as Cotto is a bigger star than Shane Mosley, Pacquiao-Cotto did 1.2 million, lets see what Mayweather vs Mosley does (Estimated around 1.5-1.7 million buys)Last edited by Parody; 03-24-2010, 10:10 AM.Comment

I dont get the obsession about PPV numbers either. Oscar and Mike Tyson were undoubtedly the biggest money maker of their time, and yet you seldom see them or their fans go out and repeatedly shout about how much they made for their fights. Maybe because there is no need since they are secure enough in knowing that they really were biggest draw of the sport.Hey 'The Break Down" who gives a **** about the ppv numbers! As far as the negotiations, you cant expect fighters like Pac and Floyd, who can make 8 figure paycheck against anyone, to take anything less than 50% of the purse. You can wave that PPV buys against fighters who are hungry and needing of fame and money but not against these two since its not gonna hurt them so much financially if they dont fight...Last edited by mikemurni; 03-24-2010, 10:01 AM.Comment
