They were all names but people still didnt go to there fights, Somehow Mayweather and his team have been able to turn it around at a late stage and make him a worldwide name, They have picked the right fights, promote in the right city, talked trash to get people's attention etc, Even Hopkins has done this and it has helped him a bit as well..
Why doesn't Shane Mosley have a fan base?

To answer the TS question...
The problem with Shane and not having a huge fan base is that as soon as he would get a career defining win....he would immediately lose in a dominating fashion.
Flash back to early 2000....he was getting some buzz and then he beat Oscar for the first time. Everyone was calling him the "Michael Jordan" of boxing, and so many people became fans of him. Then immediantly in the next fight he gets dominated by Vernon Forrest.
While I don't blame fans, logic tells you that if people start to follow you because they hype you up to be something more than you are, and they think your invincible, once they see you get dominated (esp when he happened right after your career defining win) people are gonna stop following you.
This is always been his problem. His biggest wins that created the most buzz was followed up in dominated losses back to back. He beat Oscar...the world loves him. He soon gets dominated by Vernon, and then loses a redemption fight killing any thought that Forrest may have caught him off guard.
Then during the second Oscar fight, most felt he didn't win. Shortly after Winky dominates him in back to back fights and suddenly the immortal Shane looks like an average fighter, making a lot of his new fans stop following him.Comment

Mosley doesnt have a large fan base.. Most of the people who will be watching will be people watching Floyd get his first defeat.
Maybe about 30%will be watching the sweet science (Floyd) another 50% like I said watching to see him get beat.. the rest will be Mosley fans..Comment

People fail to realise that everyone saw that Roy was cherry picking. This is why he never had a huge fan base because most of his fights were complete mismatches. That is why it's damn comical that Roy fans say anything about other fighters fighting tailor made opponents or cherry picking.
Had Roy been in mega fights (which he had a chance to do, but didn't) then he would have been a huge star.Comment

Its because he does`nt talk alot of thrash like Mayweather does.Another reason is that most boxing fans are very tribal, they mostly like to support fighters of there own race or ethnicity and black people are not into boxing as much as they use to .They are more into basketball and football.
Floyd talking alot of thrash is floyd way of adapting to this era boxing climate. It helps him gain alot of attention cause its hard to get a big fan base when you are a black fighter no matter how exciting you are cause like i said before most boxing fans are tribal and black boxing fans is a small percentage of boxing fans.Comment
