When you throw a 100 plus a round, that essentially is a big part of your d.

    Your o!

Or Clottey version, you walk up they punch you, you stand there taking punches hoping to get one in.

I don't think either is that great.

It makes me look at JMM as more of a warrior than both to be honest.
        that happened after 5 rounds

        that happened after 5 seconds

that's the argument. one tried for half a fight, while the other one never tried

The bold is clearly true. Marquez is the ****ing boss.

But your analogy only holds true for half the Cotto fight. At least at some point...granted it's kinda sad that it's come to this....

But it's more like.....you have violent exchanges with someone giving your all for a while and when you start to get hurt you run.

Or you get hit and just stay there doing nothing.

          I'll take option A.

All I can say is, Viva Juan Manuel Marquez. Takes an ass kicking but never stops trying.

Clottey didn't get beat up, he was never hurt. He wasn't getting hit cleanly, and he just never tried to step it up, he refused to try and change anything, refused to show any sense of urgency when he was losing round after round.

Cotto tried and couldn't sustain the pace. Clottey never tried. Or at least that's how I see it. Maybe I'm a little biased, but that's honestly how I see it.
I think Clottey tried, it was just a stylistic nightmare for him. I don't get it, was he supposed to become Paul Williams over night? His low output makes it impossible for him to beat Pacquiao/Williams type opponents. I siad it for years now. CLottey is a cruise control fighter. That said, I think he did as well as he could have.

You could also argue that in option b, at least Clottey still had a chance to pull the trigger and he tried sometimes. Cotto was backpedalling throwing weak jabs...

I don't know I don't give either guy a ton of credit here.

                So for me it's neither a nor b, it's c....LOL.

no it isn't. nautralizing your opponent's offense by overwhelming him isn't the same as neutralizing him by blocking, parrying, and slipping his punches

unless you wanna praise margarito's and pwill's defense, since they throw even more punches than pacquiao

he never needed to use his D yesterday

I agree it was a stylistic nightmare. I expected what happened to happen to an extent.

But when Clottey was not hurt, and it got to rounds 7 and on, I mean come on man, this is the biggest stage you've ever been on, step on the ****ing gas. I mean, you're in decent shape, you're not getting beat up too bad, take a risk, try something.

He just never did that, and there was no excuse not to. You don't have to be Paul Williams to throw more then 30 punches a round in the biggest fight of your life, especially when you've already given away the first half of the fight.
