What a pathetic sorry excuse for a thread. Salvador Sanchez was far superior to Gomez, and he taxed his ass just like Azumah Nelson did later. Sanchez and Nelson > Gomez.
Sanchez over Gomez, Mexico`s Biggest Win in the Rivalry a Moot one?

I was watching some old fights during the day and I came across a documentary called "Las Batallas de Wilfredo Gomez".
Its a documentary of Wilfredo Gomez life in and out side the ring. I learn that before the Salvador Sanchez fight, he was hanging out, going to parties, drinking, ect, ect. He got married and went on a cruise and the fight should have been postponed, but 25 days before the fight and 30 pounds overweight, he recieves a call from his promoter Don King stating and saying to him, that he needed to get back tht the fight was on and it was bein televise in the US.
So Gomez came back to PR to train with 25 days left for the fight. He struggle so badly to make weight that he only ate 1 meal in days and had to run in the Vegas desert to shred the extra weight. He was so weak, he could barely run to lose the extra pounds. And that fight was a same day weight in fight.
Now after learning all this, how can anyone give Sanchez the credit of beating Gomez, if he beat him in those conditions? I mean, thats even worst tha DLH vs Pacquiao. Probably Sanchez would had beaten Gomez anyways, that dude was no joke, but to give him credit for beating gomez in those conditions is ridiculous
This thread will probably turn into a Mexico sucks, PR are cry babies and all kind of insults from each side. But this is not meant to cause a flame war or anything. Its just my oservation on the matter, wich is kind of ridiculous situation to make a fighter, fight in those conditions!!
Champ, That fight left a bad taste in my mouth for decades and for many reasons some in which you have stated. Though what you have written are facts, credit must be given to Salvador Sanchez an ATG.

So then what you're saying pretty much is Mosley shouldn't get credit for beating Margarito? I don't hear of too many of his hardcore fans making the kind of excuses for him that you are with Gomez's loss to Salvador. They are out there. But you're stooping to a new low with this apologist thread. Pathetic.Comment

dont forgetWell in that case,
**** it,
Ruben Olivares should be undefeated because he partied too much and didn't take his training serious, thus attributing to his losses.
Lets erase the "No Mas" fight as well, since, well, you know,
Duran partied too much.
Those are the facts,
so all of those fights in which these guys lost,
have now become moot.
Oh yea,
and Mike Tyson never lost to Buster Douglas either,
his main man died, he partied too much and his corner didn't know ****.
Those are the facts, so lets change the books.
If it weren't for Morales sniffing lines off of young strippers he would still be undefeatedComment

well if thats the case its gomes own fault salvador would have probably beaten him anyway and aswell i doubt salvador was in his prime at that stage as he was barely 23 rip champComment

And speaking of Margarito, does this mean that he's not a real Mexican since he did the same thing that Gomez supposedly did of going on vacation when he had a fight in the works with Mosley and got his ass whipped? I think Margarito is half Puerto Rican. We also see those party pics of Cotto after he got his ass taxed by Margarito. He has probably been doing that his whole career.I will take the bait.....
Part of being a great fighter is being prepared. I will tell you what made Sanchez an ATG, it was his work ethic. Now I don't want to turn this into MEx vs PR because I'm not into that **** but I will say that if you look at the history of Mexican and PR fighters, one of the biggest downfalls of PR fighters is that they get the belt, some money and dive right into drugs, women and the party lifestyle.
If I'm lying, let me know because I can name so many PR fighters that fell into that trap.
I think the reason most Mexican (I said most because there are exceptions) don't fall in this same trap is because of where we come from. Mexico is a 3rd world country, it's got poverty you don't see in PR or the U.S. People are hungry there man, people fight to eat, not to be famous.
Salvador ate, slept, drank boxing 24/7. People around him said he was a gym rat and loved boxing so much it was the only thing he cared about. He liked nice things as well but he was a very dedicated fighter.
If Gomez wasn't prepared, that was his fault. At the same time, I think Sanchez is just the better fighter and if they fought 10 times, Sanchez would win 8 or 9 of them. His chin, aggressiveness, determination work ethic, and counter punching was something Gomez couldn't deal with.Comment
