Size wasn't a factor that helped Hopkins win. It was his speed, combination and movement. Perfect fight.

Martinez is only 2 inches shorter. Not as gifted you are right, but he has a chance to better 6 rounds and get a UD

Pavlik is only really good when you stand in front of him, like Taylor did in the first fight for example.

I do see this fight being more competitive than Hopkins - Pavlik though, because Martinez lacks the size Hopkins has, doesn't hit as hard and defensively isn't as good.

I do see Martinez winning, via UD.

Pavlik can win this fight with his power though, if he can land consitently enough of course.

But if Martinez gets hit as much as he did in the Williams fight, he's going to get knocked out.
Good point, Martinez is a guy you can push back with the jab because he seems to move straight back instead of to the side.

Something that a poster mentioned on my radio show is the fact that Martinez only circles to his right. Thats right into Pavliks best punch.

You should know bro, that height doesn't win fights. Skills do.

I mentioned in my post that Martinez does lack Hopkins size, power and defense but he has two advantages that really trouble Pavlik and thats his movement and superior handspeed. Even Taylor threw Pavlik off in the second fight with his speed and movement and thats not Taylor's style.

So with those factors, he could outbox Pavlik on the outside all night. That being said, Pavlik is durable and can fight at a high pace, Maybe if Martinez got tired, he could start landing more consistently and down the stretch take him out.

I'd love to see him circle into Pavlik's right hand all night.

If Martinez only circles to the right, he is actually taking away Pavliks best punch ( the right hand) but is giving Pavlik more openings with his left hook which isn't anything compared to his right hand.

Hopkins used the same strategy when fighting Pavlik.

With Pavlik though Hopkins was open for a right hand. He just got swarmed with punches and couldnt get it off.

If he circles to Pavs right and takes a left jab to the face the right hand will follow once the jab stops him in his tracks.

I think the Hopkins loss had a lot to do with Pavlik's physical rather than the stylistic issues he had in the fight, dont get me wrong he had massive stylistic issues with Hopkins but he inexplicably just did not throw punches against Hopkins, that was not just because he could not get off due to the angles he was getting, he was bothered physically by the weight imo, not to say he would of won anyway but he would not of fought that passively imo.
