He did have one fight at 160 when he beat Hopkins in May 1993 though.
I think you're confusing over-the-weight bouts (which are quite common for prospects--which Jones was) for SMW bouts. He didn't move BACK down to fight Hopkins. He was considered a middleweight; ranked #2 by the IBF when he fought Hopkins. And made his first and only defense of his MW title six months before he fought Toney.

There's definetely truth there ^^. Still technically he was fighting at SMW and that was the weightclass (along with LHW) that Jones made most of his work.

im with you bat. the thing is that all of what the ts stated is words/speculation/posturing. real fighters get in the ring with their toughest challenges no matter what. he loft so much unanswered because he wanted this or that that he also left us with the unanswered question of how good he really was.

that is a completly valid point of view, however that fighter cannot be ranked against the best of all time in other people's viewpoints (guys who want to prove they are the best fighter, not moneymaker). they just aren't in the same class of fighter.

Again this is a valid point, but its all we have to go by, lord knows what happened behind the scenes. Where would you rank Jones on the ATG list?

And Roy ducked none of those guys they did not bring the right money to the table for the risk this is a business fellows.I am pissed as a fan sometimes over his selection of fights but the guy did beat a prime Toney who beat a prime nunn and beat Hopkins who went on to be the middleweight king for 20 plus defences.
