Forcing a natural JM to move down in weight while the smaller man moves up is the jist of catchweights. It matters less that they met at welter, to force Oscar to 147 was the catch. Accept truth.

Oscar offered it at 147 and that was when Manny had 1 fight at 135.

I see what the TS is trying to say. No matter what weight a fighter fights at, it's in a class. They call it catchweight when they're both fighting at an agreed weight, which was 147. That happens to be the welterweight limit. So it can be argued at both that is was a catchweight and it was a welterweight bout.

Mayweather fought Oscar at 154 but that wasn't prime Oscar either. Theres also a difference with Marquez and Oscar fights.....Pacquiao was the one going up in weight(3 in less than a year) while Marquez was the one going up in weight to fight Mayweather. Heck when they said Pacquiao was fighting Oscar almost no one said he was gonna beat Oscar....even I didn't think he was gonna beat Oscar lol.

Why give credit? Oscar already old and long way past his prime but almost beat Mayweather. I will give Mayweather all the credits in the world if he only fought any belt holder at 154 in that time but Oscar? At least Pac by having just 1 fight at 135 have the balls to move up another 2 weight divisions to fight Oscar at 147. Remember Oscar last two fights he weighed in at 150 preparing for the showdown any at 147.

sometimes judges just give SD for make it look close against oldsql stars like oscar, the scorecards are not reflecting the fight itself, scorecards dont tell anybody if a fight was close.
im a ali fan, but his loss against leon spinks was far away from SD, same goes for floyd vs dlh.

I dont think there is a clear definition of what a "catchweight" is. Sometimes its 1 fighter moving up, 1 fighter moving down (Floyd-JMM, Pac-Cotto) and they meet somewhere in the middle at a made up weight. Other times its 2 fighters both moving up (or down) to a made up weight (Pavlik-Taylor 2). And yet other times its one fighter moving up a division (or 2), and 1 fighter moving down a division (DLH-Pac).

For me the definintion is when you have 2 guys fighting each other at an agreed upon weight that neither guy has fought at in their last few fights.
